iPhone 3G Car Charger

Does anyone know of a car charger which will work with the iPhone 3G?

I foolishly spent £15 on one yesterday in the Apple Store at Brent Cross only to find that, when it is plugged in, the 3G says that it cannot be charged from this device!

Likewise, my non-Apple wall charger give me the same message although they both work with the original iPhone!

Since I am out and about the whole day in the car, I am going to run out of juice if I can't find a solution to this problem!

Incidentally, the sales assistant in the Apple Store assured me that it would work just fine!

Thanks in advance!

The tunecast from Belkin actually works:

When I plug it in I do get an error message from the iPhone that it is not designed to work with the iphone, but it does charge it and broadcast to my stereo. It also reccomends to put the iPhone in airplane mode so that the 3g does not interfere with the signal; however I found that it works pretty good with 3g and wireless on.

The charger charges the iPhone, and the iphone plays on my stereo with 3g, bluetooth, and wifi enabled. I get occassional interference, but it is generally from surrounding businesses and not from the phone. I get 2 warnings one says "This product is not designed to work with this phone" and the one about the possibility of having interference when broadcasting to a stereo so switch to airplane mode. I ignore those warnings and use my iPhone with my stereo.

I have a ZipLinq car-to-USB device that would not charge my iPhone using the Apple cable. I assume this was due to its not delivering enough current. So I got an XtremeMac InCharge Auto (who thinks up these ridiculous names anyway?) with removable black ⚠ USB cable. It charges the phone, and I can plug other USB devices into the car adapter and use the cable with a computer... the best of both worlds. And I like the black cable, since I can leave it plugged into my car without screaming iProduct to anyone who glances in.

meritline has several dual-USB car chargers, but they aren't specifically rated for the iPhone.

I need a low profile car charger to use with my iphone 3G. The clearance in my console is very tight so I need a charger that will allow me to close the lid. Anyone know of a source? I understand that the special cable provided with my car, 07 BMW335i, that works with an ipod to both play music and charge the ipod will not work with the iphone 3G. Thanks.

i have the same problem. my guess is that Apple in its divine wisdom decided to take their "unauthorized accessories" thing to a new extreme and level of annoyance. It's definitely a software issue because it works on the 1st gen iphone. i loved my set up with the 1st iphone because it was basically an integrated system in my car. Apple should correct this egregious error with an update.
