GPS not working with iPhone 3G

I just bought the iPhone 3G. The GPS feature does not appear to be working. The iPhone does not locate me when I press the "Location button" in the Maps application. Am I doing something wrong or is my iPhone defective?

OK.. try this... it just worked for me for some reason. Set it to EDGE, locate. Let your phone go to sleep, and then start it back up again. GPS was working all of a sudden. May have just been my phone, but I tried it again.

Rebooted. 3G on, WIFI on, connected to AEBS: Actual location: Memphis, TN, iPhone says Stamford, CT, with no GPS lock.
Turned 3G off, WIFI on. Location is within the right area now. No GPS.
Turned 3G off, WIFI off. GPS works.

Try it and see if any of you guys have the same results.

Mine has gone out a few times, I just turned the phone off completely and turned it back on. I think the issue is with some applications, maybe including the included maps one, not always releasing control of the GPS when it "quits" so it just hangs and nothing can access the GPS until the phone is restarted.

Or maybe not, I just know that turning off my phone and turning it back on has had perfect results the few times this has happened.

My iPhone 3G works flawlessly even with 3G enabled and wireless enabled... when out of range of the wireless network at home.

I just tried it out while I was out in the car, it was working perfectly until I walked back in the front door and it picked up the wireless network... Bing! Instantly back to thinking I'm in Manhattan. I'm actually in the UK.

Now the only thing I can think here is that I bought the Time Capsule/base station in Manhattan, and was staying in an apartment very close to where the iPhone now thinks I am. I have redone the network settings from scratch since I was over in the US.

Could the TC have something stored for its location?

My GPS was also not functional when I purchased my iPhone Friday morning. This solution has been previously posted, but it worked for me so I thought I'd also post it:

1. Reboot iPhone with 3G ON and Wi-Fi ON.
2. Turn 3G OFF and Wi-Fi OFF.
3. Go outside to a place where you can see a lot of open sky.
4. Make sure "Location Services" in General settings is ON.
5. Go into Maps and click the locate button in the bottom left corner, GPS should start working immediately.

This worked for me, let me know if it works for anybody else.

Maybe this will help
