Volume changes on its own?

Does anyone else have a problem with the volume changing sporadically? I can't figure out what I'm doing that's causing it, but I'll set the volume to 100% and I'll check it later in General > Sounds and it'll be down to about 20%. Happens quite a bit, and for no good reason. Anyone else?

Anyone? It happens to me multiple times a day and just want to know if I'm alone (which I'll try and fix with a complete restore...). Obviously, I'd rather not do a restore on my phone (it takes 30 minutes or so) unless I absolutely have to.

I have tried the restore. I will let you know how it goes; so far, so good.

Let me clarify a bit as to why I think it's a software glitch.

When I go into Settings > Sounds and notice that the volume has dropped, I've tested by going back to the homescreen without adjusting the volume. From there, I use the side keys to change my volume, and it shows that it's already AT full volume when I use the side keys. But it's not at full volume in Settings.

Weird. Hope the restore fixed it. Will update here when/if I notice it recurring.. thanks for the advice!

I performed what you described on my own 3G iPhone, setting the sound to a level in settings, then going home and using the side keys to alter it, then checking the sound in the settings, and each time I did it it was exactly to where I had set it with the side keys. So I'm unable to reproduce your problem, which makes me wonder if it's a "just a bug in the firmware." That's why I'd recommend attempting whatever trouble-shooting techniques that are available to you.

If you or anyone else gets this fixed by doing the "restore as a new phone" and then syncing let us know. I'm hesitant to try this yet since both my 3g and my wife's original updated iphone are doing this. With the original one it had been mine and we set it up as a new phone with new sim for her and subsequent to that I did a restore on it for another issue and it still has the volume issue. I'm skeptical that the restore as a new phone will work but if anyone sees a definite cure I'll try it.

For anyone who is considering doing the "restore as new phone" rather than from a backup don't, it's a major pain to set your phone back up the way you had it previously. I did it just to see if there would be a change, there wasn't. The volume slider still changes on its own randomly. It will always do it after you make or take a call. I wish I hadn't gone to all the trouble of the restore, looks as if we'll just have to wait for a software fix.

I have had other brand phones in the past that do the same thing, when you put max volume on it will let you use it like that for that call but then take it down to what is considered safe. I also have an office phone that does the same thing. It is a mechanism to support the manufacturer of the product so when you sue them for the volume being so loud it can damage your eardrums they can say that you chose that and that the equipment returns to a safe level and you decided to increase it yourself.

I am pretty sure this is the real reason for this.

Hmmm...is the volume actually changing?
I have a first gen with 2.0 update. I set the ringer at 12 clicks up using the side buttons. When I check the settings, the slider is way down. So...I select my ring tone to listen, and the volume is fine. Return to the slider, and now it's up where it should be. Looks to me like a problem with the way the slider is displayed....the volume really hasn't changed.
Anyone?
