Typing on 3G iPhone slower than 1st iPhone

Anyone noticed that typing on 3g iPhone has lag now? Even the audible clicks are slower... Not huge issue but noticeable. Wife's new phone same as mine... Anyone else?

Penryn MBP, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Mac OS X (10.5.4), Leopards ate my personality.

I haven't noticed any typing lag except for when I'm in Safari and Safari hasn't completely finished loading the page I'm on. And in that case, I find the iPhone 3G the same as the 2G, they both lag quite a bit. The only silver lining there is, an easy work around is to let the page load completely before typing into search fields, etc.

yes, I've had the same issue.
sometimes when I'm texting and I misspell a word, there is a delay and it doesnt correct the word until I'm already typing the next word and the little box with the correction doesnt even come up, it just makes the change.

I've also noticed that sometimes there are no keyboard clicks or there is a huge delay and they all play really fast one right after the other after I've already typed the word.

Yep - that's it. Seems to be the system software 2.0 - went to Apple Store last night and played with other iPhone 3Gs and they all did the same thing. It's like when you type the processor sometimes is trying to keep up with rapid typing.

Easiest way to see it is to look at an iPhone (either 3G or 1st Gen) running 2.0 software, versus another iPhone running V1.x.x software and type out a good sized text message. You'll notice the typing on the 1.x.x software is smoother and more accurate.

Then delete by holding down the delete key... you'll hear the clicks on the 2.0 software sound sluggish, while the 1.x.x software buzzes right through the characters without missing a beat.

Might be a simple case of giving the 2.0 software a few revisions from Apple to run faster and smoother. But... it's definitely there. I only noticed because I am usually able to FLY through typing on the iPhone, and with the new one I make more mistakes as the clicks don't correspond to actual key presses. You might hit a character key and then a microsecond later it clicks... doesn't sound like much but when hitting 2 or 3 characters a second the lag can make it difficult to type at fast speeds.

This is definitely a problem...there seems to be a delay on how 2.0 is running...I actually did a test by placing my old iPhone next to my iPhone 3G and each time I tapped a similar icons (not using the internet) on both, there was definitely slower responds on the iPhone 3G...I seem like I'm always waiting for my iPhone 3G to catch up with my request...this is frustrating and very disappointing to say the least !

What we all may be experiencing is the fact that the iPhone is doing a lot of things such as wi-fi, 3G, GPS, etc., etc., etc.

You need to remember that there is only one CPU aboard to handle all of the computer functions including the interpretation of what typed key has been hit. The more you load onto the CPU, the more it has to do and regardless of how powerful the CPU is or the CPU Chip is, it will slow the process down.

I have not found it, and it may not be there, but an iPhone meter measuring CPU load would be great in these situations.

The iPhone is not doing any more that it was doing before. 1st gen iPhones running 2.0 software also experience this issue... they have no additional chips, etc. That said, it gets more and more frustrating.

You talked about a 3G iPhone. What do you mean it does not have any more functions?

What about GPS, what about 3G, etc., etc.

It is doing a heck of a lot more than it was doing before just pinging all of it new capabilities takes time away from other CPU functions.
