Safari reloads a tab when I switch back to it

Just bought the iPhone 3G yesterday and really like it so far, except for one really annoying thing that Safari keeps doing. If I am browsing and open a page in a new tab (or whatever they are called in Mobile Safari), then whenever I close the new tab and go back to the previous tab, Safari automatically refreshes that tab without me hitting the refresh button. This is annoying for at least two reasons: 1) if I am on EDGE, it takes a while for the page to reload, and 2) on AJAX-y pages, refreshing often causes the page to lose its state. Desktop browsers don't do this, so why does Safari do it on the iPhone?

I have hunted around in the settings, but can't find a way to disable this behavior. Why would Apple make it do this by default?

I don't agree that this is fixed. I am running 2.2, and have recently been using Continental and AA's mobile airline boarding passes. With these passes, you open a screen (usually from your email) which presents the necessary bar code in Safari to be scanned for check-in.

I usually load this page just prior to entering security; by the time I get to the gate, Safari has decided to re-load this page on me, and both airlines' systems become confused, producing an error screen. All I want to do is keep the barcode on my screen, so that I can board!

I've run into similar issues with other websites reloading without request. This issue still isn't fixed.

Yes, I agree with you Daniel. I was a bit too quick with praising Apple this time.

After having used 2.2 for a couple of weeks now I have indeed encountered the reload problem on many occasions.

So, it's not fixed. But it's better than it used to be.

BTW: Incidentally, I was checking out Jobs' introduction of the iPhone back in January 2007. I worked for him. His tabs did not reload - and it would have made an awful demo if they had...

Fix it!

I don't care what it causes to reload the pages. This is just f*cking annoying.
It's now just disgusting to re-login to the secured sites every time when I switch the pages. It even reloads the pages when I wake it up from the sleep mode after a while. Unless Apple fixes this disgusting bug I'm seriously thinking about switching to other smartphones.

Shame on you Apple if you intended to make it work this way.
Shame on you Apple if you couldn't fix it so long after the iphone launch.

It's pretty silly that no one has mentioned the most obvious solution to this issue. Make it an OPTION. I guess that's just the apple mindset though. Take away user choice to presumably make everything idiot proof. Bad move. We want our freedom. Not everyone with an iPhone is a mac dude.

Speaking of iPhones... It's pretty pathetic that apples own site doesn't even have a mobile version. You guys make and sell the iPhone, yet you've yet to create a mobile version of your site? LOL.

Other than that, the phone is great. The only problem I've encountered is a few calling issues when at low battery. The phone should be the most basic and vital component of the device. If my phone isn't dead, I want to be able to make calls.
