iPhone 3G apps crash on startup and cause iPhone to restart
I have found that when starting up some apps on my new iPhone (important: doesn't matter which apps) that they fail to start up and crash back to the iPhone 'desktop'. When this happens, try as I might, they almost ALL seem to do this, until finally the iPhone takes it upon itself to restart (which takes longer than a normal restart. However, after the restart, the apps work again! This sometimes happens after the iPhone has been 'asleep' for a while, but not always. It's as if just opening new apps is too much for it, or that other processes going on in the iPhone are crashing with the apps.
Anybody else having this?
(I have other issues with this new phone here in the UK - see my other posts).

add me to the list too! I've had this problem since day 1! my apps keeps crashing on me, doesn't matter what I do, delete and reinstall apps, restore my iphone 3G 4 times already, and my apps still crashing like no tomorrow, sometimes ALL the apps wouldn't work? what the heck? I spend so much money to get my dream phone, and it's even worse than my previous one? I mean am I suppose to worry this much? I need to learn "tricks" just to get my phone to work properly? come on!!
My wife's iPhone crashes on every iTunes app, barely anything works on her phone.
Not happy.
She has now virtually abandoned it and gone for a Nokia E65.
and I'm still paying the contract on the iPhone.
I never experience this issue until i updated to the new 3.0 OS. Why hasn't Apple fixed this problem or come up with a definite fix for us when it happens? I tried soft reset, hard reset, authorize, sync, restore, delete + redownload, reset "all settings" and still no luck. Has anyone figured out something that works?
*KNOCK KNOCK* APPLE - PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE! THIS IS ABSURD!
I don't mean to bring back a thread from the dead but as a brand new iphone user (bought a 3gs last week) I am having this issue. None of my 3rd party apps would open until I downloaded a new app and installed it. To think that my old windows mobile 5.1 HTC apache went longer without a problem than my brand new apple state of the art iphone kinda ****** me off... a lot. I have heard nothing but great things from other apple users and to have this kind of a major problem within one week is a bit unreasonable.
Somehow the same problem occurring with my brandnew iPhone 3GS. It seems to be somehow different from the problem you report, because it allready happened before I installed anything else.
It seems that when asking some extra performance, like establishing WiFi connection, locating with GPS or navigate quickly through any of the apps it just crashes. It then starts rebooting automatically, which is often only succesfull after it has tried 4-5 times. If it doesn't succeed, I even have te perform a hard reset.
I thought I had bought the most amazing phone i ever had, but so far the only thing it has added is frustration. Rediculous for a phone this expensive with everything it promisses.
I am also a new iPhone 3GS owner/user who experienced the crashing apps. issue yesterday. It occurred after synchronization on an authorized PC. It was limited to third-party apps., so I uninstalled them from the phone, deleted them from iTunes applications list, re-downloaded them via the phone, and lastly, changed my iTunes settings to NOT sync applications. This worked well for me because all of my programs are free. If you have paid applications, not sure if this would work for you.
I've synced since, and iTunes copied my apps back into itself, but like I said, I disabled syncing from iTunes to the phone, and did NOT have a recurring issue. I did read somewhere online that it may have something to do with digital media rights.
I've found a solution that's so far worked for me.
Restart after installing apps.
It doesn't matter if it's one or more, just be certain to restart when you exit the App Store. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a "reboot" app, so you have to power the iPhone off entirely.
Yes, i had the same problem of apps crashing. I bought the iPhone 3Gs and it had been working smoothly for over a month now. It started crashing in the last 2 days. No 3rd party app would launch. The Apple Genius expert told me that it an Authorization issue and would resolve if I authorize my phone in my Mac. I did that and it doesn't seem to resolve the problem(Note - I was not sync'ing my applications into Mac using iTunes. What fixed the issue was, I had to install an update to the app - after the update, all the apps started working again. I will have to wait for All the apps to crash once again to figure out more. I will share if I seem to find something on this issue.
Yea man, i have the same problem. I believe that 3.1 firmware is the problem. It was all working sweetly until this morning (thursday october 8 2009) when they would open for a second or two and crash. i do believe that 3.1 is seriously ********. I am resetting my phone now.
Apple: I have un-jailbroken my iPhone (not my fault that it was by the way, my mate did it. He stole it and did it), please do me a favor a fix this issue. cheers.
