iTunes Unable to Sync Google Contact Groups?

I'm having issues getting my iTunes to sync with my Google Contact Groups. It will sync all my contacts or none of my contacts, it won't recognize that I have a Group called Phone, which is the only group that I want it to sync with.

If I select Gmail there is a configure button, but it doesn't do anything except make me login to Gmail. I never see any contact groups listed in the box labeled groups. The selected groups option is just grayed out. I have already tried reseting my syncs within iTunes.

I got 664 contacts from gmail, 600 are worthless! This is a mess. It makes contact syncing worthless. Please Fix!

Well, I figured out a temporary workaround that did a good job.

Google lets you export entire groups by themselves as vcards. I have about 6 groups of contacts, so I did 6 exports. I opened them up one by one in iCal, and dragged them into groups.

Pros:
1. I now have nicely organized groups on my iPhone from my google contacts.

Cons:
2. This is a one way solution. My contacts can no longers sync with google contacts.

You're correct. Suggested Contacts is very new. I'll retract my previous statement about it being bad design on Apple's part. Let's hope that they incorporate it into the next iPhone update. Right now, it's more annoying than useful.

But...is there a way to tell Gmail to NOT add anything to suggested contacts? If so, we could just turn it off, and then the two-way sync would work just fine with nothing in the Suggested Contacts group.

In Windows Vista, whenever I select "google contacts" Itunes 7.7 freezes. The first time I tried it popped up a dialogue asking for my google ID, but not any more. It just locks up.

I have tried resetting the sync history, and wonder if I should have put my ful email in for the google ID rather than the bit before @gmail.

I just want to have the option to put groups into my contacts.

grrr, after doing the work I did to set up a few contacts on my phone, my phone sync'd with my mobileme>PC>Gmail and ended up overwriting my master contact list in gmail - groups and all. So I went from 360 contacts to 80. 😟

Unfortunately, I didn't conceive of that happening so I have no backup of my whole Gmail list.

I have the same problems, I was using MS Address book in XP, had all my groups, since then I switched to goggle sync and lost all abilities to do groups, and options to enable thema are grey'd out.

It would be nice if apple would comment on there thoughts about this matter.

It's evident that Apple doesn't really care about fixing this issue since no one from Apple has responded and 7.7.1 didn't include a fix for this issue...

Has anyone had any luck resolving this? I'm having the same issue, running Vista and latest ITunes. I even upgrade to the 2.01 iphone update that came out last night and still no luck.

The picture you linked is for Mac OS X.

In Windows you'll see Google Contacts in the drop-down menu.

The article shows photos for both Mac OS X and Windows.

But you won't see the groups. This feature is still useless and not as advertised.
