I'm having issues getting my iTunes to sync with my Google Contact Groups. It will sync all my contacts or none of my contacts, it won't recognize that I have a Group called Phone, which is the only group that I want it to sync with.
If I select Gmail there is a configure button, but it doesn't do anything except make me login to Gmail. I never see any contact groups listed in the box labeled groups. The selected groups option is just grayed out. I have already tried reseting my syncs within iTunes.
I've got the same problem sync'ing groups b/t google and mac address book. While I don't have a complete answer, here's a tip that
might help.
I created a "smart-group" in mac address book called "MyPhoneGroup". For the selection criteria, I added some test in the note field, e.g. "BelongsInMyPhoneGroup".
Next, I went into google and created a new group, I also named it "MyPhoneGroup" (although the name does not really matter).
I then added, in google, the contacts that I wanted to be in the group.
After I had group in google, I edited each of the contacts and added the text "BelongsInMyPhoneGroup" to the "Notes" field.
Once I finished adding the new "tag"/"label" to the notes field in google I sync'd using iTunes. When I went into address book, my "smart group" was updated with the new contacts.
So this kinda solves part of the problem. You still have to manually manage the groups in google, add an additional "tag", and you have to use the "smart group" option in address book. But at least it's a start.
What actually surprised me though, was the fact that (unless I missed it) google doesn't use labels in a consistent way in their groups--but that's another story.
I just installed the iTunes 8.0 and iPhone 2.1 updates in hopes that one of the two would resolve this issue. No luck. Should we conclude that it's on Google's side? (If so, I can use a connection to advise the Gmail contacts feature's engineering team about the bug.)
I'm having the same issue on windows XP with iTunes 8.0.2 and iPhone v2.2. I've created a group in my google contact called "iPhone" and I'd like to sync only that group, however I can only select "All Contacts" when I choose to sync with google.
Gotta love Apple. They've never responded to a single concern I've had regarding their product and I've been having issues with this feature for months.
iPhone 2g 2.1 with new iTunes installed-getting same symptoms as the rest of ya. Select to sync, select google contacts, press configure and type in username/pwd, and nothing happens. no groups, nada. press sync and get something to the effect of "these contact lists are dramatically different, do you want to delete the iphone's and replace with google or merge the two?". I choose merge and nothing happens..
And, really, why isn't there a keep the iphone version? Some of us don't sync super-often and the iPhone is the most up to date version of stuff we have (I just sync w outlook to save a backup of my iphone). I digress, but is it that hard to add a 3rd option?
Don't know why I ask the an organization that doesn't respond a question that isn't rhetorical.
Hey everyone... just downloaded the Sync in a Blink app and it works great at syncing specific google groups. ***** we have to pay for it, but it's a fix for now.
Glad you found my writeup helpful 🙂 Between Sync in a Blink and SaiSuke, my iPhone to Google integration woes are largely over. I do wish I could edit the contact group of a contact within the iPhone contacts app, but maybe in the next release. For now, I'm happy and productive.
