CDRom Doesn't Work When ITunes Is Installed

Hi there.

Got myself a nice new Acer Aspire computer to compliment my Nano. It has Vista Premium. Sadly the CD Rom drive doesn't function with ITunes installed. I Get the following message in the device manager:
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM_GH15N ATA Device.
Device Type DVD/CD-Rom drives.
Manufacturer (Standard CD-Rom drives)
Location Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0.

This device cannot start (code10)

I uninstalled Itunes as this was the last program to be installed before the drive stopped working. I don't need that 64 bit patch as my computer is only 32 bit.
Anybody else having the same trouble? I really miss my Nano!

ARRRGGGGHHHH! I tried ALL the suggestions and nothing works. I was able to get one of my CD drives to appear, but it won't read CDs and then disappears after I remove the CD.

I upgraded the GEAR drivers only on a friend's machine (figured it wouldn't hurt - I didn't want to screw it up like I did my computer with all the registry editing) and it worked right away. But as far as my machine - no dice. I'd cry if this wasn't so comically pathetic.....

I've given up. Apple has defeated me. It's a fact of life: KitK and Apple I-Tunes are not compatible.
It's a pain in the backside that I have to install I-Tunes to update my I-Pod software then uninstall it but at least I have my CD drive back.

Is this a windows vista problem or is this happening with windows xp as well?

Sorry it took so long to reply. It seems like this one applies to Vista only. Although there are XP glitches too, I should imagine!

I hate to be so simple but trash itunes and roll with another player. All I did was to use the system restore to 1 day before new install of 8.0 as I knew it was Itunes that jacked up my system and all was well. Yes it did effect my XP system.

A true XP die hard..

yes I have the same issue. I uninstalled everything that Itunes put in and then tried again using the 32 bit itunes program but still lost the cdrom drives on my computer. I don't know what to do either
