iPhone 3G won't display own number

I have upgraded from the iPhone to the new iPhone 3G. My old iPhone would always display my own number at the top of the contacts page. This doesn't appear on my new iPhone 3G. I have taken the SIM out of the phone and put it into another to check if my own number is set ok on the sim card and it looks fine. Any way of getting this working?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

My US iPhone doesn't diplay its own number at the top of the contacts app when you go into Contact from the 2nd page of the home screen.

However, as parker79 says in a post above, my iPhone DOES display its own number when I go to Phone and then from the bottom of the phone page I select Contacts. You have to scroll to the top of the list of contacts, above "A" to see it.

Also, under Settings->Phone my phone number is listed.

That's true. I was refering to seeing the number in the contacts section of the Phone app. I don't see the number listed in the Contacts app, but seems like what I would expect.

On my phone and my husband's phone it displays the # on the contacts page that is displayed after going into the phone menu. You may have to scroll to the top of the screen to see it. If you just go into contacts that is on the home screen it does not display the # though.

This is exactly what mine does, tapping the contacts button/widget on the Home screen will not show the number. Going into the phone screen and then contacts it's at the very top of the screen as it was before.

If your number is ported, lets say Verizon, sometime the phone number itself will not display in iTunes. Nor will it display in your settings under Phone or top of your contacts page. I've gone to 2 AT&T stores and they have no idea why or how to do so. I've suggested taking the sim out and entering it manually from another GSM device and I get a blank stare. So at this point, we're open to suggestions.

Here's a screen shot of contacts, when you scroll to the top:

Then you scroll even further, you see your own number
Here's a screen shot with own number showing:

If you don't get this, then it's possible your own number never got programed in to the SIM. It's possible, I've had that happen before. With other phones and modem cards you can sometimes see this entry and even edit it yourself. You can call AT&T and tell them your own number isn't showing up on the phone and ask them to re-send the OTA (Over the air update) to re-program your SIM.
They may or may not argue with you. Just tell them you'd like the SIM update package to be re-sent.

Your number doesn't have to be in the SIM for it to work and make calls. It's really just an optional field I believe.

I had the same problem until i removed my sim and put it in my old (unlocked) K800i. i inputted my number into the sim and transfered it back to the iphone. Now it displays my number at the top of the contacts list accessed through the phone shortcut and in the settings page. Good call Grant and RF9.
