iTunes Install Error 1316-1603

I tried both the iTunes goes with the iPod CD and the one downloaded on the website, and I exit all the other programs (including firewalls, Norton) before installation, and I also used Windows Install Clear Up to clear former versions, but I still can't install iTunes.
everytime I got Errors as below:

1316 - a network error occured while attempting to read the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi

I continue, and got error 1603- fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information

hi Ella!

hmmmm. okay, the 1316 is fairly exotic ... i think you're the first one i've seen in an itunes context.

we have had success with these "undocumented errors" though.

first, throw away the current installers and download fresh ones from the website. here are the Installshield Tips and Pointers on installation best practices:

http://consumer.installshield.com/faq.asp#ts

apply these to your situation. (probably best to start off with the simpler ones and work up to the more aggressive measures.)

good luck! keep us posted on your progress.

... also, if you've got the time, would you mind reporting your error to InstallShield?

http://consumer.installshield.com/submit.asp

i'm not sure if they'll get back to you, but i guess if we keep reporting these "undocumented errors", we might get some more documentation on them sooner rather than later ...

Hi, i have the exact error as ella but my problem is, i cannot remove/delete the installer no matter which way i tried. Each time when i try to remove/install it, it will ask me if i want to remove all relevant files, i say yes and it will have the error 1603.
another case is the Error 1406, but i have already fix my registry key problem.
pls help me to solve the problem

hi Amy!

okay, if the
b only
error you're getting under these circumstances is the 1603, then we should attack the 1603 head on. See:

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q111019

and the installshield tips and pointers on best installation practices are also helpful:

b but,
if you're getting a chain of errors prior to the 1603, we need to attack the first error in the chain. post back to let us know if that is the case, and which error you're getting.

either way, keep us posted on your progress.

hi Amy!

the 1316 is a rare error (in an ipod/itunes context), but the fact that you're always getting it from a CD-based install immediately suggests a course of action.

put the CD in a drawer somewhere. download and save to your hard drive a fresh copy of the ipod updater installer. (we'll run the installation from there.)

if you're still running into trouble, try applying the general advice on installer error troubleshooting given here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

... and the installshield tips and pointers on installation best practices often prove useful when trying to deal with these less-well-documented errors:

keep us posted on your progress.
