iTunes Install Error 1316-1603

I tried both the iTunes goes with the iPod CD and the one downloaded on the website, and I exit all the other programs (including firewalls, Norton) before installation, and I also used Windows Install Clear Up to clear former versions, but I still can't install iTunes.
everytime I got Errors as below:

1316 - a network error occured while attempting to read the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi

I continue, and got error 1603- fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information

Thank you b noir, thank you toonz, i have successfully install iTunes at last. but i got a new problem here.

when i click to open itunes, a dialogue comes up and says "quick time version 6.5 is installed, itunes requires quick time version 7.0 or later".

I might have an old version 6.5 installed before, but when i tried to removed, it said "a program or control panel whcih uses QT appears to be running. installation cannot continue until you exit all programs using QT..." That is weird, i can't find any problem which use QT.. can you help? and i have downloaded the latest version of itunes thru the website.

hi Amy!

yuck. okay, let's try the InstallShield technique for switching off previously running applications, to see if that picks up the program that is causing the problems:

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108377

also be sure to have both antivirus and
b antispyware
scanners shut off during the install. both of those have been known to interfere with QT 7 installs.

keep us posted.

Well, the QT icon was not at the task bar the night before when i tried to remove it..

anyway, i uninstall (not uninstall everything) QT6.5 from add/remove program and then i have done something to the registry key again which i found it from one of the topic here. I added a key to microsoft\windows\installer (forgot what the key was and i couldn't find it here now). then installed QT7.0 standalone version again. Bang !! Failed with the error 1402 but different path this time. I follow the path and check if i have permission, Yes i do, it is for everyone. So i give up.

Quesion:
Should i go to add/remove again to "Uninstalled everything" for QT?
or when i install QT, the 7.0 will overwrite the 6.5 version that i had?
do i need to uninstall itunes before i install QT7.0
or do i need to remove/delete itunes.exe before i install QT7.0
I check the path when Error 1402 occurred, some path already added "everyone" as administrator to has to full right, but why the error keep saying i don't have the permission?
should i remove everything (itunes, QT) and install the old version of itunes instead if the new one has SO MANY PROBLEMS?

I have my nano for almost 2 weeks now and i still can't start enjoying it. I am starting to wonder if i will have problem with the nano even i finally got the itunes and QT running.

:((

sorry, should have explained my advice more clearly. other programs (apart from itunes) also use QT, so i thought we'd try to shut down
b all
running applications in the hope that we'd pick up on the one that might still be using quicktime.

okay, let's keep trying with the QT 7 install. here's the most complete set of keys i've seen posted so far:
