Text message alert sounds disappear (3G)

I dunno if anyone else is having the same problem, but..

I got the iPhone 3G over the weekend, and I've noticed that my text-message alert sounds kind of go away. The phone will vibrate, but the alerts don't sound off.

Before you say anything, Yes the phone is on Loud (it's not on Vibrate), Yes my text message alerts are enabled in settings, Yes I've double checked.

So far the only way I've been able to fix this is to restart the phone.. which can get really annoying when you do it over and over.

I THINK that it's caused by the headphones.. I've noticed that the text alerts work, but when I plug in the headphones and then unplug them the sounds stop working.

So, has anyone else had this problem?? If so, does anyone know how to fix it? Or what I can do?

its a known issue...

its all over the web!

Apple is not going to admit to it. Would you admit to it?

What you need to do is the following...
http://www.apple.com/feedback
there click the iPhone feedback and send off your concerns with ALL YOUR BUGS...

I called APPLE tech support and they advised me the more people that contact apple via FEEDBACK and select BUG REPORT. The more it gets looked at.

On that note... I love how a company pokes at another company (those lovely mac commercials) and yet they got just as much bugs as them lol. No offense to Apple. I own both products but one should be TRULY perfect before you poke at competitors and you got major issues with your products...

God I love this world we live in....

one more issue i found...
if the phone is asleep and u press the home button and slide to unlock... the sound does not work at times... kinda like the SMS issues... then I notice there is no sound... the only way to reset it ... is to restart it.

all sound levels are to the maximum. I have tried to insert/reinsert the headjack... nada

maybe the software was rushed out without testing properly... my 2 cents

I also have the same exact SMS problem and the only fix is to reboot the phone.
Not acceptable to me. I talk 10 minutes a day but I text couple of hundred a day if not more.

I thought I was the only one until I found this thread. Combine this very annoying issue with the 1.5 hours it takes to back up before it syncs and I am pretty unhappy with the 2.0 version.

most companies are aware of these issues, but have to say they are unaware of them to cover themselves!

No one is going to admit they have poorly written software. That includes Apple.

If you really care and really want this issue to be fixed, like myself, please
go to http://www.apple.com/feedback

It takes a few secs to fill out the report. This will get to Apple. If Apple continues to be blind by this... Not to worry... Most forums know about it. I'd suggest returning your phone like I have... Reason? Sound issues! Restored phone several times... The techs at Apple one way or another will get it then!

Mr Jobs rushed this phone out and Apple proved to the market it was ill prepared to handle MASS production. No company is perfect, including Apple. I have wasted countless hours on this project. Even the tech support people don't know about these issues... What world is Apple living in? The North POLE?

Im sure fix 2.01 will address these issues. If not the 5th phone goes back until Apple bottom line shrinks again... I have advised my friends not to purchase the phone because of build quality and software bugs. A few have listened. So Mr Jobs, if you can read this, FIX IT! Thanks Microsoft. 🙂

also I have set the sound levels to the maximum and they revert to the middle always lol... there is a reason why I left it to the maximum lol

This is one buggy software! Apple test your stuff before getting it out... Two more weeks of testing would have been better than all these issues! I was going to buy a mac this year, but afraid to now. I have Vista and no crashes... So I find this rather amusing 🙂

I use to think of Apple as the king of software... seriously
But mobileme problems... iphone software 2.0 problems...
makes you kinda wonder..

this is my 4th phone too since July 11th! All defective for different reasons. I'm starting to wonder why?

The only thing I can think of ... its mass production, something Apple has never done before... getting this many phones to 22 countries?

I cant wait for a fix to these issues!

I am having this same problem with my 3G. It seems that even when I exit out of the sms screen back to the home screen that is still won't make the alert sound. I have also tried the headphone trick and that doesn't work all the time. I really hope that the 2.0.1 firmware update will fix a lot of the bugginess with the current firmware. I love Apple products to death but I have to admit that the 2.0 firmware has been too buggy for Apple to have their name on it.
