Text message alert sounds disappear (3G)

I dunno if anyone else is having the same problem, but..

I got the iPhone 3G over the weekend, and I've noticed that my text-message alert sounds kind of go away. The phone will vibrate, but the alerts don't sound off.

Before you say anything, Yes the phone is on Loud (it's not on Vibrate), Yes my text message alerts are enabled in settings, Yes I've double checked.

So far the only way I've been able to fix this is to restart the phone.. which can get really annoying when you do it over and over.

I THINK that it's caused by the headphones.. I've noticed that the text alerts work, but when I plug in the headphones and then unplug them the sounds stop working.

So, has anyone else had this problem?? If so, does anyone know how to fix it? Or what I can do?

I have the same Issue:
iPhone 3G w/ 2.0.1 firmware, SMS Sounds stop working after "some" time.
Checked all sounds ON and not in MUTE.
Sounds worked fine a few hours ago as I heard SMS sounds fine.
Phone reboot fixes the issue (but is QUITE annoying).

Reported to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

P.S. I used to make fun of friends with Windows Mobile about them having to reboot every day. I am starting to feel stupid with iPhone having to reboot every day here! I live-and-die by SMS as part of my job in monitoring many servers! I love my iPhone but this little bug is VERY BAD for me!

There are four ways to fix this alert disappear sound problem. Three of them I know for sure are temporary. (Meaning the your alert sounds will disapeear again after a few days, in which you will have to repect one of these three steps.) These three ways are Restore, Reset, or just turn the phone off then back on again. The last way to fix this problem is to change your alert from tri-tone to Chime. This seems to be a permanent fix for some people but not for others. I believe this to be a problem in iphone software 2.0. Taking your phone back to the Apple store is a waste of time. Apple has to acknowledged this problem as being a bug and fix this in their next iphone update.
