iPhone sync's Rating, but not Play Count

I noticed that when I change the Rating (Stars) on the iPhone (OS 2.0) and sync the phone in iTunes, the new Rating is carried forward into the iTunes library. However, having listened to a song (to the end without skipping) on the iPhone, the Play Count is not increased in iTunes. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

Yep, this is a bummer. Been playing music all weekend, only to see that none of the plays were added to iTunes when I synced this afternoon.

This doesn't work for me. My Recently Played playlist holds what's been played in the last two weeks, and all my playlists are synced to my iPhone. However, it did not tell iTunes about everything that was played last week. Now here's the bizarre thing - the Recently Played playlist on the iPhone shows everything that was played last week, but the one on iTunes does not. Also, to look at that playlist, I paused the playlist in progress, went to the Playlists page and opened Recently Played, but none of the stuff that has been played since I started the new playlist shows up. When I started a different playlist, those tracks still did not show up. That is clearly a real bug. I'll try to sync again (unfortunately, sync takes 10 minutes for some reason) and see what the story is then.

Firstly... I have submitted a bug request to Apple ( http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html). I think everyone who is experiencing this problem should do so.

This is a widely recognised issue on various forums and there has been no response from Apple (that I'm aware of) which is really disappointing. And this thread is NOT ANSWERED!!!

I have the problem with the latest firmware 2.2 and had it with 2.1. I've "manually managed music" as well as trying "sync checked songs only" but both have the same problem. It is sporadic in the sense that sometimes it's updated but most of the time it isn't.

I can't see why this should be so hard to fix. It's simply a case of the iPod/iPhone updating some sort of xml/DB with a count once half the song's been listened too and then syncing this to iTunes!!!

This is so frustrating!

FYI, I have found a repeatable scenario for my 3G. If I run the game Numba Lite and play it until it won't let me anymore (it wants me to buy the full version), it appears to reset the iPhone after presenting a pop-up asking me to buy the full version. After that, anything that has been played on my iPhone since the mast time I synced is gone. However, the Last Played playlist on my iPhone is still correct - it's just not synced to iTunes.

If I avoid running any app that causes the iPhone to reset, and if I'm careful to always return to the iPod app before starting a new app, then it maintains the memory.
