Yet Another Exchange ActiveSync Problem

Hi! Like everybody else, I am having an ActiveSync problem. The one thing that I haven't seen much of are log files from the iPhone. I would encourage others to try to use the iPhone Configuration Utility to view the console logs. I'm thinking that if we can do that, then we can maybe narrow down if we are all experiencing the same problem or if there are different issues.

Below is a snip of my log. I know it says "Can't find host", but it has to because it authenticates me fine.

Well, I think I might have a solution....it's at least a hint.

According to the Apple iPhone MS Exchange requirements, it says that you need MS Exchange 2003 SP2 or Exchange 2007 SP1. Double check the exchange version by going to...

https://<owa server>/oma

It should ask you to login. After logging in, go to the "About" tab. In the middle of the "About" tab, look at the line that says....

Mailbox Server, Microsoft(R) Exchange: 6.5.7226

Now, using the document on this site...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158530

You can take that number and lookup your exchange version. According to my version, it is...

Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP1

Which, unfortunately, is not compatible with the iPhone.

I hope that others will read this thread who are having problems and try this, just to see if this might be the problem.

Thanks!

Well....Just an idea. If you're using SSL, is it a self-signed cert? The line...

Looks like it's not allowing it because the certificate isn't signed by a CA. From what I've read, one way around this is to import the certificate using the iPhone Config Utility.

Hope that helps!

How did you get this log information from your phone.

I have a similar set. No front end server. Just a box. We're behind a firewall, but I have OWA enabled via SSL.

I didn't have Mobile Access enabled in ESM. Which is why the OMA test that someone didn't work. I now have that working.

I have my own certs and installed both the root and the site cert on the iphone. I don't know if this is a problem. If I don't use my own certificate server, I need to know what root servers are supported by the iphone.

I installed the certs on the iPhone, disabled SSL requirement and Forms-Based auth (only for testing) and now access EAS via SSL but now I get the "Exchange Server Verification Service Failed"

I'm trying to elinimated all the problems one by one and right now I have a lot of varialbes. Any help would be appreciated.
