OpenVPN Compatibility?

Does anyone know of a way to get OpenVPN to work with an iPhone? Our business utilizes OpenVPN and I'd like to let our iPhone users access through this type of connection. Thanks for any thoughts!

Yeah, it's a shame that iPhone OS doesn't currently support OpenVPN, which is arguably the best VPN solution out there, with lots of support on many platforms.

Also, since my cellphone carrier blocks traditionnal VPN ports on its plans (Orange France, I'm looking at you!), the current iPhone VPN clients are only working through wifi. Having OpenVPN support on the iPhone would allow me to get around that limitation (by setting the vpn on an open port).

I really hope Apple adds support for openvpn in iPhone OS 3.0. I can understand that getting a GUI for that on the phone might be a bit tricky (as there are many settings to consider, and certs to copy/paste), but at least to be able to configure it through the iPhone Configuration utility (as it is for 802.1x) might be enough.

I pretty much agree with the general cries on this forum. Apple should have built OpenVPN support into the 3.0 software. There is no reason it couldn't be done. I and the rest of the people I work with would use it in a heartbeat as Cisco gear is generally overpriced and unnecessary in this area.

Can anyone from Apple weigh in on this and give their explanation as to why OpenVPN support wasn't built in from the get go and PPTP was? I mean, come on, PPTP is ridiculously insecure and yet there it is. Yay! Thanks, Apple.

I am about to get my first iPhone, the 3GS, and I am thoroughly disappointed that OpenVPN support is unavailable. How can something of this significance be overlooked??? OpenVPN's importance to the IT community is indisputable. Rarely does a day go by that I don't use an OpenVPN tunnel to resolve a network problem for one of my clients.

It's disappointments like this that will ensure Android dominance within the next 5 years. Wake up, Apple.
