Backup of iPhone takes around 2 hours!

Hello, I just just downloaded the 2.0 firmware from iTunes and restored my iPhone to it. When syncing, a backup is taken. Well now on 2.0 it takes around 2+ Hours to backup! I received as call during it and had to start it all over! I still do not have a backup of my settings and such. On the old 1.1.4 it took rtound 3 minutes or less to backup. What is the deal?? I cannot deal with this. Please help.

I also can confirm that after upgrading to 2.01 and 7.7.1.11 that my Iphone with less than 1 GB of content loaded is taking hours to backup.

I have to plan my backups accordingly because if a call comes in the backup fails.

I work as a technical support person for a very large software company. This 2.0 release feels rushed and primarily focused on locking down on the hacks so that you are forced to use the apps that they supply...which as a side note all seemed to crash for at least the first three weeks.

I now understand why they purposely ran out of phones in the 2.0 release. All the people that waited over night basically waited to be test bunnies. I am very disappointed that I have to go with out a cell phone for several hours due to the fact that Apple could spend some money on QA and RD on a simple yet critical task of backups 😟

Are you aware of a defect number or an actual fix that is being planned or where you guessing that this is a known issue with a known software development solution down the road?

Either in this thread, or another thread, someone said that they reported this issue to Apple and were told that it is a known bug. The problem is that it's all they will say. They do not provide the bug report number, nor do they allow users to search current bug reports to see if their issue(s) are contained within a report.

So, basically, we're all flying blind, and hoping that Apple is, in fact, working on this.

Raleigh,

Yes I am aware of this. Although I dont feel like corrupting the backup myself (Although iTunes will most likely corrupt it by itself anyways) by doing that. I am not looking for a cheap fix. I am looking for Apple to take serious action. And I know you cant control that and I thank you for replying to this. Apple just needs to care about its customers. They dont show this. They are quiet about all things and then 3 months later they have this huge event about whatever is new. I mean even the last two updates just say "Bug Fixes" Oh yay! I mean cant they say:

- Improved Responsiveness of Contacts app
- Fixed Safari Bug
- Etc

Thats annoying. They dont show that they care in my and many others opinions.

Hi there,

I am a complete novice when it comes to anything technical; but what I do know is that my iphone takes 8 HOURS to sync, and even then if I leave it overnight it freezes and I have to start over again. Am at my wits end. Can anyone explain in laymans terms how / where I can look at the 'Iphone Crash Report'? As it is "backing up" now I cant get into Itunes without crashing it all over again. Its not even 'syncing' anymore - Ive lost everything on the Itunes on the Iphone... Its a 16b and I have only used 9gb.

Or does anyone have any technical suggestions other than those posed thus far? My only suggestion is to throw it into the ocean... 🙂

Thanks - everyone on this thread appears really tech-savvy and Im just very very inexperienced!

If you are having problems with an excessively long backup, you can cancel the process by clicking on the x in the top right corner of the box at the top. The rest of the sync process should happen pretty quickly. By going into edit-preferences-sync you can then delete the failed backup.
Not backing up is not the end of the world, I had to keep doing this until I updated to 2.0.2 and then sat out the 7 hours to end up with backups working.

Backup of iPhone takes around 2 hours!
