Cannot rename folders or files

Periodically Finder decides to stop letting me rename anything on my computer. I can create new folders, but must leave them as the default "untitled folder." When this glitch starts, I also cannot copy and paste from the text that is in the folder name. Additionally, spotlight search stops working.

Relaunching finder has no effect. Deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file and relaunching works only some times. Oh great, I just hit command + **** + U to open up utilities in order to open the Console and discovered keyboard shortcuts have stopped working too. Nothing weird is happening in the Console.

X Server, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Yes i have this problem at work... Os 10.4.11
and now at home too... grrrrr (same Os)

If you remame your file or folder with info palette... it work, but it is not a true sollution.
I try with an other user on my machine, and all is ok, other account will not have this problem.

Anybody have an idea ? What file i have to trash to be ok ? i dont want to trash my account.

I've had this problem for months now, and THANK YOU for that suggestion on Stuffit, because I disabled that in system preferences and now it's all working fine! Who knows why it chose to get weird in the first place!

I'm having the same problem. Had to change the folder name using Terminal:

mv "untitled folder" newname

I'm seeing this issue also occur on a 10.4.11 OS X system, so it's NOT a Leopard specific issue.

Still having this issue after leopard 10.5.5. Other users around my office have started having it too.
