Preamp on iPhone?

Preamp on iPhone?

Are the new 3G IPhones equipped with with a preamp on the headphone out like an iPod is? I tried to use my Verizon Venus phone for some DJ work and it has absolutely NO juice for that. I had to crank the power amp I was using up all the way and still it was weak!

Dual 1.4Ghz. Fastmac processor (revision B) Gigabit ethernet G4 dual boot, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 1.25gig RAM with dual monitor setup, Pionerr DVD-RW, Digi 002R/Pro Tools 6.9

Don't know for sure. The audio from the speaker is MUCH louder than was on the original iPhone. I think the audio on the headphone out is much louder too. The audio also sounds cleaner on a couple of different speaker/docks I have used.

Only one way to find out -- plug a 3G into your board and see what happens. . . .

.....well I don't have one and I don't know anyone who does. That's why I'm posting. Have you A/B'd it with an iPod? Those iPods are just soooo loud and it's because of that pre-amp from what I've been told.

I can tell you that when I connect my headphone output to an aux input of my receiver (high level input) there is more than enough output to drive it. Hope this helps.

Gothboy,

You'll be much better off if you use line out from the iPhone.

You'll have access to that connection on Apple's Universal Dock.

You might also take a look at this:

I highly recommend it.

I don't recommend the PocketDock for use with the iPhone 3G. I have one and it only works with some iPhone 3Gs. I tried it with three different iPhones and it only worked with one. Soundstation has been terrible to deal with and do not acknowledge that it is a problem.
