And we're down again. Still receiving the "Unknown" error when I connect to iTunes and attempt to update carrier settings. Seems like the data packages that govern settings related to quite a few of the "international" providers have not been validated for 2.0.1. Please advise.
I've received a few reports that the 2.0.1 upgrade breaks the SIM unlock that has been provided by some carriers. It could be that updated patches were issued for international providers, but nobody accounted for a case whereby a provider had unlocked a phone. Unlocked devices aren't available in the US. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind, right? 🙂
It would be good to know how many of the folks who are watching this thread have had their phones unlocked by their provider.
After downloading the 2.0.1 update, my iPhone crashed during the update, forcing me to restore it to factory settings before iTunes could recognize it again. Then, iTunes restored my personal settings from backup and updated it to 2.0.1 without me knowing it until it was all said and done. After that, it asked me to update the carrier settings, which I did once, and it seemed to work. Then, it asked me to update the carrier settings again, to which I agreed to and got the same error message as everyone here.
So, it asked me to update the carrier settings twice since the 2.0.1 update, with the second one giving me the 0xe8000001 error. Has anyone else experienced this as well?
LOL - eyetaix, you might be right about that - but... I'm not sure if mine is unlocked - I'm on a 2 year contract with Optus, post paid, they didn't say anything at the time of setup as to whether or not it was unlocked and I would assume that it isn't given that I'm on a contract and have 2 years worth of handset repayments.
Any other Aussies with Optus on a post paid contract and can shed any light on whether or not they are unlocked as a matter of course?
This seems to be a non-US issue, maybe Apple tested with AT&T only. Or the forgot to tell all the non-US carriers they need to update something.
For me the carrier settings update reports no errors, but it keeps coming back for every sync.
After powering the iPhone down and up 3G and 2.5G stopped working, although the status icon shows up sometimes. Sometimes there is a message saying that I have no data subscription.
WiFi is fine.
So, for those that still have 3G data, powering down might not be a good idea.
So it looks as though this problem is affecting folks with locked and (legitimately) unlocked iPhone 3G devices outside the US. The error is annoying, but for the most part it appears benign. It would be helpful if someone from Apple would signal that this issue has been confirmed even if there isn't an ETA on a fix.
Hi all, i also have same problem (0xe8000001 error) and called optus australia. They have no idea what to do and told me that ignore the error message. How helpful they are?
