    Sorry to disillusion you, I had this advice from Apple about a month to six weeks ago. It works for a short time then something goes faulty again. I remember the conversation well as it was ESCALATED to a level 2 nerd, I think he was in Bangladesh or somewhere. He tried very hard. We spoke on the phone for ages....

    Having the same problem.. Prompt for password on all accounts. Using comcast as well.

    I've changed passwords and started over in keychain - will no win. only fail.

    As I have been saying in this forum and others, we have had this problem for months and we dont have comcast !

    If you leave your Mac idle for 12 to 24 hours, you return and the bouncing mail icon and password flag are there. That is one of the faults. It also generates the password at other times "without" reason.

    It is a fault with MAIL. We have tried just about every suggestion that people have been putting up for weeks and nothing has worked.

    Heck, if I leave my computer idle for 30 minutes and mail comes in, I get the pop-up.

    In the past, once is a while I would get this, but when I entered my password, it went away and didn't come back.

    Now nothing anyone does makes it go away.

    I have several Macs , all 10.5.4 connected to Verizon DSL at work, and more at home connected to Comcast, all keep asking for the password.I have tried everything posted in this and other forums, no joy. I do not have Mobilme. Clearly an Apple problem. Keep contacting them, Mail feedback ect. until they post a fix.

    I am also one of the frustrated people that have this password problem with the bouncing Mail icon and notice to supply the password etc. I have ticket number both with Comcast and Apple that have been escalated to a higher level. Who knows what that all means anymore? In any event, I have received no answer from either company regarding this problem.

    What I did, and for now it seems to have stopped the bouncing Mail icon and annoying password messages every two to five minutes is this: I changed the Incoming Mail Server Port to 110 and the Outgoing Mail Server Port to 587. Also, I changed the Authentication under the Outgoing SMTP (using the drop-down menu and clicking on Edit Server List and then the Advanced Tab) to MD5 Challenge-Response. Then add your Name and Password.

    For now and quite a few hours in a row today and tonight I have not been bothered with Mail going offline and or being asked for a password. I will keep my fingers crossed for now. I'm not sure if anyone has fixed "their" problem or not but for now Mail seems to work for now. Good luck.

    Well, its been over 24 hours since my last pop-up. Mail has been coming in.

    Don't know why it stopped and hope I'm not jinxing it with this response.

    I've gone almost 24 hours without a pop-up as well. First time in weeks.

    I have 6 accounts configured on Mail

    1 = POP Comcast
    4 = POP Yahoo!
    1 = IMAP MobileMe

    The pop-up only occured for Comcast, the other accounts have been well-behaved.

    Strange. I was fairly convinced that it was an issue with either Mail or Keychain. But since I haven't installed or updated anything in the past 24 hours I think that strongly suggests something on the Comcast side. Maybe just a timing issue?...

    Hoping it holds good permanently.

    I have 8 email accounts and only one problem, my comcast email account. Made the apparent mistake of canceling a request for password rather than re-entering it and now when using Mail preferences it will not retain my password. After it's saved and re-opened the password goes away.

    Any suggestions?

    PS My MacBook laptop uses the same email accounts and operating system but thus far the problem with Comcast mail has not shown up.

    Try going to www.comcast.net. Go into your account and change the password. Go into your keychain and make sure it matches.

    Comcast mail site seems to have invalid certificates, which may be causing the problem, unless Mail's ability to read those certificates has been corrupted. Is anyone else seeing this?

    I spoke too soon. just got a Pop-Up asking for my password again. This has to be a Comcast issue.

    I have had this problem since the update, too. I called Comcast and they told me to call Apple. Now I can't receive mail at all unless I access the Comast.com webmail. This is frustrating. I am somewhat relieved to know that I am not the only one with this issue. I am sure that Apple will issue a fix.

    It's kind of sick to say this but it's semi-comforting to know that others have this same issue. My wife and I have two MacBook pros. Both of us have two different e-mail addresses using one Comcast "account". I also have my gmail account in Mail. We each have upgraded to the latest OS (10.5.4) and software updates (Mail 3.3 (926.1/926). Both our Comcast accounts started going offline and asking for passwords about a week ago. At some point we didn't input the password and the requests went away. However they continued to go offline. Today I found out that she hasn't had the offline problem for two days. My Comcast e-mail address still managed to go offline randomly. Note that the Gmail account never asked for a password nor went offline.

    I finally got around to calling Comcast...who said it sounded like an Apple issue. The tech said he had never heard of this happening. (This was before I came to this forum.)

    We changed the settings on my comcast account (deselected ssl on both incoming and outgoing servers; port 587 on outgoing server; port 110 on income server; kept password authentication on both servers). (SSL was selected before and was using port 995 as outgoing server).

    Since this change at around 9:45 pm est today, I've been online for about 45 min. That is much better than the offline messages I was getting every 5-10 minutes. Not sure whether this will hold up given everyone's experiences but thought I would provide additional info for folks.

    Based on what others are reporting, sounds like an Apple issue...sure would be nice if they acknowledged it.
