Hi,

This is starting to drive me a bit mad.

I have set up the iPhone to do exchange, and despite entering the correct password (I have tested this by logging on to the web version of exchange using the password) I keep being told by the iPhone that the password I am using is wrong.

I have downloaded a digital cert to the iPhone from the companies exchange server website etc.

Driving me mad. Has anyone else experienced this? Could there be another password I'm not aware of?

A couple of us at our company are having this problem. Refuses to accept the password that works with every other access to our exchange using Entourage or Exchange online.

Anyone got an idea how to fix this?

Just curious Derek did you ever use Synchronica with your iphone?

I had this same problem. Turns out, in the process of setting up the Exchange account on my iPhone I had attempted to connect with a mistyped password. Our office Exchange server is set up to inactivate an account if it experiences three or more failed login attempts (default settings). I was able to unlock my Exchange account, re-type my password CAREFULLY on the iPhone and get connected immediately.

Hope your probnlem is as easy to fix as mine...

Try entering your user name as yourexchange_domainusername
For example, if yourexchangedomain is sbs2003 and user_name is user1, you enter as sbs2003\user1

I have a corporate exchange server. Set up my iPhone, no problems. I see all my emails, contacts, calendar items, etc.

The problem comes when I come into work and start Entourage, it says my password is incorrect, even though nothing has changed. I have to go to the IT dept. and reset my password. All is fine for a while, then is does it again, all the while my iPhones Exchange account is syncing just fine. If I delete the account from my iPhone, I have no problems.

Anyone else out there hear of this?

I know the password is correct.

On your iPhone, for Exchange account, change Fetch New Data to "Fetch" for a couple of days and see if the problem still exists (I bet it does). If it does, check with your Exchange admin about account policies. "Push" feature maintains an active connection with the Exchange server. There might be some setting on your server to disable account if the connection is continuous.

    he's right:
    you should type in:
    yourexchange_domainusername

    Do NOT use:
    yourexchange_domain/username

this solves the (at least my) password problem.

The type of slash is improtant.

We have tried using forward and backwards slash and it still tells us the password is not correct on the iphone. The strange thing is that others in our company are not having this issue. In fact they are able to go on our phones and enter their account info and it works fine.

    Ralf -
You are a lifesaver. I've wasted hours in the past two weeks trying to set my Exchange 2007 account up on the iPhone. I've been using a Gmail account to get all work emails, and it was just not very useful. I was so excited about this new software and yet so frustrated with the process. Several things I learned....

Yes, indeed, Ralf is correct, the direction of the slash matters, at least regarding the password. The iPhone does NOT like the forward slash, though you have to go thru TWO menus on the keypad to get to the correct backslash (the ?123 button and then the #+= button).

Another thing - it appears that the iPhone does not like having two email accounts on the phone. I already had my Gmail account set up, and was trying to set up the Exchange account with the Gmail account still active. A better bet is to erase all email accounts and start with the Exchange account. I'm not sure if I'll bother re-setting up the Gmail account for fear that it will mess up the Exchange account, but if any of you are braver than me, let me know how it goes.

Third thing - for whatever reasons, at the bottom of my inbox, there's a line that reads "4294867298 unsent messages." No idea what that means, but I'm pretty sure that I don't have 4 billion emails waiting to be sent out, so I'm hoping this is normal.

Fourth thing - when I synced the iPhone manually thru iTunes (at least when I was using the Gmail account), my Outlook calendar would download into the iPhone, and conveniently take a few entries (about 23) with it into cyberspace. The entries are still on the email server, and they show up in my Active Appointments view in Outlook, but not in the more useful Calendar view. Again, no idea how this happens, but I won't be plugging in the iPhone to my computer anytime soon. Hoping it doesn't do the same thing over ActiveSync.

And finally, keep fighting with your tech guys and reading these posts, b/c it turns out I knew more than they did about how to set this up and the various obstacles we would run into.

    Good luck!

Great answer, but is the same on Windows PC's and Windows Mobile. I never use a forward slash when providing credentials...

Fixed my problems! Funny thing is that no one at Apple Technical Support thought to offer this advice.

    Thanks so much!

iPhone shows an example during setup with the slash in the correct direction.

We typed in as per the example shown on the iPhone.

    1. The back slash is important??? Yeah, duh....why would it example a backslash if you could use a forward slash?? Common pc knowledge file paths and domain/server paths backslash...url's forward slashes....computer grammar 101

    2. You are crazy if you think the iphone cannot have MANY email accounts set up in it, I have 9, hotmail, yahoo, gmail, microsoft exchange and a novell server....they work just fine pal.

    3. sent item issue....LEARN HOW TO SET UP YOUR EMAIL. Your imap settings are wrong or not entered, iphone does not mess with imap settings by default

    4. your calender problem is due to that is the calender you have set for default sync but not to view....lear how to set up your phone.
