iPhone 3G and A2DP

i was thinking about getting a motorola S9 headset for the iphone 3G. However i need to know if the iphone supports A2DP (stereo bluetooth) or if not what adapter i can get for it that will add A2DP support (preferably the motorola D650)

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4), iTunes 7.7

Actually, I think it's only for the 3Gs iPhone. With the improved battery power bluetooth streaming is less of an issue. I use a bluetooth stereo headset with my iPhone for phone functionality and when my phone and headset are synced it ***** the battery from my phone at an alarming rate. Apple may say otherwise, but I stand by my theory that battery life is the main reason A2DP has not been supported until now.

It is obsurd that this A2DP is only supported on the 3G. That disclaimer is NOT on their website and I bought the S9 with full expectation of it working w/ iPod music streaming (finally) on my pristine, perfect and still all-I-need 2G. After an hour on the phone with a "product specialist" this is what I got (cited as being cut from and INTERNAL ONLY document)...

Support for stereo Bluetooth accessories (A2DP-compatible).
MMS messaging is available only on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S, check your wireless carrier for availability and pricing.
MMS may not be available at release, and may require an MMS messaging plan.

Certain features are available only on specific models; the following table lists availability by iPhone and iPod touch model:

Feature iPhone iPhone 3G iPhone 3G S iPod touch iPod touch
(2nd generation)
MMS No Yes Yes n/a n/a
Voice Memos Yes Yes Yes No Yes*
Stereo Bluetooth No Yes Yes No Yes
Bluetooth Peer to Peer No Yes Yes No Yes

*Requires a compatible headset with microphone or third-party accessory.

The 3G is the one w/ the battery issues! My original iPhone battery rocks and I use my S9 for phone ALL the time! This is a stupid ploy. Apple I am SORELY dissapointed! FIX THIS NOW!

Apple you even have 3rd party OEMs that are saying their BT headphone products work w/ iPhone on 3.0...nothing about 3G only:

JayBird for Mobile Phones ( http://www.jaybirdgear.com/bluetooth-stereo-headphones-buy.php)

iPhone OS 3.0:

You can now use your JB-200 JayBird Bluetooth headphones with iPhone & iPod Touch without needing a Bluetooth adapter.

iPhone OS 3.0 now has A2DP (Bluetooth stereo) and allows full use of call and music controls other than next and previous track.

Says NOTHING about 3G only! Like your website...

What's next? Am I going to find out "Shake to Shuffle" only works on 3G now, too?? Some of them make sense like MMS on 3G and S only. That makes sense.

A2DP on 2G: Same iPhone 3.0 software. Same BT 2.0 radio. Faster 3G network has nothing to do w/ this issue, so that's out. The ONLY difference is that my 2G has MUCH BETTER BATTERY LIFE!! There is no reason for this other than you are ram-rodding us 2Gers! FIX THIS NOW! PLEASE!! It's the ONLY FEATURE I WANTED in 3.0!!!

Having just updated to OS3.0 I was expecting A2DP bluetooth and connection to other mobile devices to now work on my iphone 3g as promised in the adverts.

My iphone failed to find any other devices even though there were several Nokias etc within 20 feet.

Having just come off the phone to Apple support after waiting in a queue for 20 minutes I was disgusted to hear that this functionality will only work with the new 3gs as it has a different bluetooth chipset.

That was never mentioned in any of the presentations I have seen.

Can anyone confirm this is true, this is a disgrace if it is.

After upgrading to iPhone 3.0, I was able to connect to a Jabra BT8010 stereo headset with no problems. It showed up on other iPhone 3Gs also.

I did NOT get full functionality with my headset. I can stream music just fine, start it, stop it, and pause. "Skip to next" doesn't seem to work. Volume works just fine. I was able to use "Skip to next" when I plugged in my Sony BT transmitter to the iPhone. Yay, no transmitter required, Boo, can't skip.

I've read that this type of compatibility depends much more on the two devices involved than I would have guessed. Music between my Sony BT and Jabra were fine, calls between my Jabra and the iPhone were fine.

It is too early to tell what models will have the best compatibility -time will tell. I am sure iPhone will be releasing $$$ bluetooth stereo headsets.

I have iPhone 3G and recently updated to os 3.0 but I am unable to see how to stream music via bluetooth. I have a 2009 Toyota Venza which has A2DP and I should be able to stream music.
My handsfree works just great but I do not see any bluetooth icon when playing the iPod to be able to stream music.
Can someone answer this question?

Your issues are the same as mine with my headset. I have been talking to Apple Tech support and they have no solution yet. Its already at the developer/engineering level. If you can call them and let them know, it might increase the priority they give to this problem.
Here is the thread for this issue.

Good luck
