My iPhone won't let me write my name!

Hi, my name is Edam. No, it's Edan. You see, I'm posting this topic on my iPhone right now, and due to some word correction feature, whenever I type in my name, it suggests "Edam" instead. But that's when i try to write it the second time. The first time I type, it is literally impossible-- as in when I try to complete my name with 'n', it only let's me type 'b' or 'm' which is next to 'n' on the keyboard.

So can I add my name to the iPhone's vocabulary and correct this? Or does my iPhone just hate me?

The same thing happens to me, try typing Maite (my name) and it will give you either Maitr or Maitw, the keyboard skips over the e everytime, funny thing is that you CAN type te, ite or aite without a problem. It happens on the original iPhone and the new 3G but not on the iPod Touch. I tried on normal and jailbroken phones.

I have tried both "niki" and "edan" and when moving my finger around the keyboard trying to type the "i" or "n" you can see that the space that registers the "o" and "m" keys is about 6x the size. Try typing "edan" and when you are trying to type the "n" move your finger around the keyboard away from "m" and you will notice that the letter changes right in between the keys, but around the "m" when you move from "j" to "m" the m pops up while your finger is still on the lower part of "j". So yes indeed they are making the are of the key bigger and this effectively nukes the "n".

that is odd, it really doesnt let u enter the N.... added "Edan" as a contact and now when i type Edan it turns into Edam( as it did before); but now once it add the "m" the correction box will show "Edan" lmao

i guess the fix for this would be add yourself as a contact, it will still type "Edam" but will auto correct to "Edan" once you press space.

Just out of curiosity I wanted to see how this predictive feature works for other words.

Try by starting with "foo". then for the last letter hold your finger down and see what letters are "oversized". "d" is the biggest not letting you type "s" or "f" but an equally possible letter to complete the word would be "t" but it's not nearly as oversized, but it is oversized.

I can see why they would want this to reduce typing errors but seriously all this work just to make the last letter easier to type. What about all the letters before this one, there were plenty of chances of errors before this point so what's the point.
