I can't use my old deactivated iPhone anymore?

Okay so I got a new iPhone.. its fine. My problem is.. I want to use my old 8G strictly for the iPod and wi-fi.. and camera.. and photos.. etc. The phone is not activated anymore and it was working just fine until I updated the phone through iTunes.. now I can't even get on the phone. It keeps wanting me to activate or add an additional line. I don't want, nor need, to do either. So.. what do I need to do?

You should have updated the firmware BEFORE activating your 3G. Updating firmware always requires reactivation.

You can try and put the SIM from your 3G in and try activating it that way, then take it out put it back in your 3G and reactivate again. Not sure if this will work.

After an iPhone is deactivated, you can use all iPhone functions except for any phone related functions but an iPhone must be activated in order to install a new firmware update and when restoring an iPhone with iTunes if needed or wanted since the current firmware version is re-installed when doing so which requires an active iPhone.

You can activate this iPhone with your new iPhone's SIM card to complete the update process and un-brick the iPhone, which will bring back all functions.

Follow this by removing the SIM card transferred from your new iPhone placing it back in your new iPhone and then re-activate your new iPhone.

Thank you all for the help.. I'm a Marine.. I know nothing about phones.. I'm not a tech-junky.. if you need me to rig a claymore in complete darkness on a shag carpet, I can do that.. with this, I am truly lost

Hi,

I just tried using the new sim in the old phone to activate it (so that I can use it as the ipod only) but when I try I get the full activation stuff, including adding a new plan. Can you tell me what option I should select in the activation screen to avoid this?
