Facebook app won't log in, or when it rarely does....crashes

hi guys,

Only got my iphone 3G a few days ago but loving it....bar Facebook.

On my first iphone the web app was brilliant so when i got the new one and saw the official app for it i really thought it'd do the job even better.

Unfortunately though, after trying to log in 30 times over the last 2 days, i've only got in twice and on those occasions it's crashed after a few minutes.

It also 'pushes' the amount of PMs i have onto the home screen, something i didn't know was coming until Sept, and then when i lock my phone and check it again they've disappeared.

Not sure if anyone else is having any problems with it, as my friends arn't....but i basically want to know...

is this a phone problem or a software problem?

Thanks for your time.

PC, Windows XP

background info...

I have a first gen 8GB iPhone while my mother has a 3G 16GB one. Both iPhones have the native Facebook installed.

Facebook works on my iPhone (knocking on wood and praying to the gods) with no issues.

My mother's Facebook works for me too! (I'm super special. :)), but when she tries to log in it won't...it spins and spins...

I'm thinking there is probably something up with Facebook's authentication server...?

I was having the same issue with my new iPhone 3G 16gb however I just figured it out. I have two emails linked to my account, my school email and a gmail account. I normally log in using the gmail account as my password from the website. However, I had to actually use my school email for the app and it logged me in just fine.
