Apple TV 2.1 won't show in my iTunes Devices List

Hi all,

After updating with the 2.1 software this afternoon, my Apple TV no longer shows up in the Devices list in iTunes.

I've tried everything listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1453, but still no joy.

My current setup is:
Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Build 9E17)
iTunes 7.7 (43)
Apple TV 2.1 (Build 227, 8N5519 - EFI 00DA.B00 - IR 2.4.4 - GF 3.1.0/2.9.50)
Apple Time Capsule (Version 7.3.2)

Everything works fine - the Apple TV shows in the devices list, and syncs as expected - when I'm using the 2.0 software, which leads me to believe that there is a problem with the 2.1 software in my setup.

Does anyone know of any solutions or workarounds, other than the obvious of doing another Factory Restore and reverting to the 2.0 software?

Best regards,
Anthony

So 2 days ago, my iTunes suddenly gets the multiple speaker drop down back... wait, could it be - YES! it's there I can select my Apple TV as AirTunes speakers. I do a quick test and sure enough it works.

Still no AppleTV in the device list but I was busy so didn't get to test anything else.

Today I thought for the **** of it, I will just go and see if I can connect my Apple TV to iTunes. So I go into the menu and select add shared library - walk back next door and BANG there it is large as life back in the devices list waiting to be set up. I enter the code and away we go. I've done a few tests and I'm able to stream, movies and music.

The most bizarre thing is I have made no system changes at all since it stopped working then weeks later out of nowhere it starts working again. ***?

I am having the same issue as many of you. Airport Express, AppleTV 160gb, iMac 2.66, OSX 10.5.4. Everything worked well, performed software updates, and now AppleTV does not show in device list, but is listed in the external speakers list.

My dilemma is that I've purchased content ON the AppleTV since the last sync, so I don't want to reconnect and risk wiping out content.

Can anyone help? I still haven't seen a straightforward answer here.

I had a very similar problem (twice actually under iTunes 7.7 and after 'upgrade' to iTunes 8. I resolved it using this post from another site.

However, i got around this by running apples bonjour conformance test tool which can be downloaded on the bonjour developers site ( http://developer.apple.com/networking/bonjour/ConformanceTest-123.zip) with the suggested command in the readme:

./BonjourConformanceTest -I en0 -L p -M hu

(entered at the Terminal window of the directory you put the conformance test tool)

after scanning, suddenly the services i wanted to connect showed up in BB... and after upgrading iTunes to 7.6 even there.

I'd really like to know whats exactly the problem.. and how to get rid of it/ enabling the share discovery via ethernet by default.
