Abnormal exit and leaves many temp file.tmp in itunes diectory

After upgrading to itunes 7.7, When I exit Itunes it closes then I get a message from windows (xp sp2) that says itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Otherwise itunes works normally. I can see what the problem is. When closing itunes copys a temp file.tmp over to its "Itunes library.xml" file. Normally, it would do this (part of the "saving itunes library" message you see on exit) and then delete the *.tmp file. Instead, the tmp file is copied but the tmp file does NOT get deleted (the error). These then start to build up (temp file 2.tmp, etc.). The actual "itunes library.xml" file does in fact get updated correctly. Something has changed about itunes ability to delete these tmp files on exit. I haven't changed anything else about my machine. Thoughts on this?

Hey, just getting caught up on this topic, as I'm having a problem shutting down.
1. Everything runs fine on the new install of iTunes 7.7.1.11, until I try to close the program (either clicking the "x" at the upper right of the window, or by selecting close under the file menu).
2. iTunes simply locks up instantly and I have to close it by right-mousing the program on my taskbar and forcing it to close.
I know somebody had success with iTunes 7.7.1, but has anybody figured out this problem?

That's not good! The main things iTunes does on shutdown is to update "iTunes Music Library.xml", "iTunes Library.itl", and the "iTunesPrefs.xml" files; it also "disconnects" from iPod devices and other Apple services, and (hopefully) goes through an orderly shutdown of the application itself. Unfortunately, several things could potentially cause the iTunes to freeze up on close. Here are a few steps that Apple recommends you follow when you start troubleshooting:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421

If that link does not help, there are other "power tools" available on the web that you can use to trace iTunes as it closes or to monitor other activity on your system. However, these can be daunting and tedious to use.

If your AntiVirus program is the culprit, it may have logged errors. Also, did you try waiting a while before terminating iTunes to see if the program was ever able to exit cleanly on its own?

Lastly, bear in mind that this forum is not an official Apple tech support channel. If you're not able to get help in these forums, you also can provide Apple with feedback using this link:

Hope this helps...
