In the last few days I've found that neither my iphone or itunes is keeping me up to date with updates. When I asked itunes to check for updates, it told me all my applications were up to date yet when I checked each application, there were updates available and I had to download them individually. Is there a known bug in the app store, or is it just me that's having this issue? Given that my collection of apps is growing all the time, manually checking them is very time consuming!
Just got this email from GameLoft (makers of Diamond Twister):
Dear Gameloft Costumer,
We are really sorry to learn of your difficulties. We are aware of the situation and we are already working side by side with the Apple developers on it. We appreciate your patience and understanding towards this. And we can assure you, for the middle of the next week will be a new update available for free-download fixing this annoying situation.
I've run into the same thing. Thanks for the tip about re-buying the apps, but I don't want to do it for the dozens of apps in iTunes.
I've found that my iPhone will find updates that iTunes doesn't and then my phone is all messed up while downloading and installing the new updates. I would much rather have the updates fed through iTunes and my computer than through the phone...
Is there any way to check which version of an app is on the iPhone? I downloaded a couple of updates to my computer, but apparently they did not transfer to my iPhone because the new features did not work. Finally, trashed the old version and downloaded it again from scratch. But it would be nice to know what version the phone is using.
skipper1, unfortunately that is something the developer of the app has to provide for. I've been amazed how many iPhone apps have no "about" box to give version info. Unless the app is in iTunes, it's hard to know.
just installed iTunes 7.7.1--found updates for 30+ of my apps (even though I had already installed the updates manually)--maybe this finally fixes it??
Having downloaded the 7.7.1 update for iTunes this seems to be working as I can see that there is 1 update available for my apps. Seems the problem was down to a bug in the previous version of iTunes.
I could detail all the ways that this is broken, but wow, Apple, just friggin' test your stuff for an afternoon. Rampant with bugs, and more specifically to this topic, just the app update is rampant with bugs. Contact me, or anyone else on this list, if you're interested in identifying all the bugs. Otherwise, I get the sense that we're wasting our time typing here. I do normally love Apple products, but it appears they shouldn't have done 4 simultaneous product/service launches right when they all seemingly took off for summer vacation.
Yes, my Applications line in the iTunes Library shows a "1" next to it. Why, then, when I click on Check for Updates does it take me to the iTunes Store and show me 7 updates?? All of which I already applied. Running iTunes 7.7.1, still broken, apparently.
Here is a possible workaround which I think worked?
_Starting Fresh_
1. I deleted all apps in iTunes.
2. Deleted anything else in my apps folder (explorer)
3. I sync'd which removed all my apps on my iPhone
4. I redownloaded again from iTunes.
5. I sync'd again which uploaded the latest version.
_Forcing it_
1. Delete the known application that has an update within iTunes.
2. Confirm that it is deleted from the folder (explorer)
3. Sync so that iTunes removes it from the iPhone
4. Download the latest update
5. Sync again so the latest is installed on the iPhone.
Better idea? Less buggy software from Apple. How much time do we have to spend creating and implementing work arounds? Maybe Apple should actually produce working software to support their claims.
In the last few days I have been told of 25 app updates 4 times.
I say it's ok to update all and I can see it download all of the apps, but then hours later it says I need them again... They are the same versions I got before!!!
I did some digging and found that I now have 5 or more copies of each app in my ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications Folder.
I've also still been getting problems with application updates via iTunes. It now tells me when there are updates available but then proceeds to download updates for
all my apps even if there are no updates available for all of them. It would be more accurate to update from my iphone as it lists only the apps with updates but then things ends up out of place on my iphone.
Apple has really gone down in my estimation with all the foul-ups over iTunes, syncing calendars and application updates. At the moment it looks like a Mickey Mouse organisation which has bitten of far more than it can chew!
