I just updated to 2.1.1 and tried importing some pictures from my Nikon D80. The import pane only shows grey boxes as placeholders for the images in my camera. I can import the pictures into my library and see them there. Anybody else having this problem?
On a positive note, pictures are now auto-rotating properly with the D80...
Think yourself lucky! Guess what I did - I bought a D700 and next day my Aperture upgrades downloaded, so not only could I not access any of my D700 raws, but many of my previous D200 pictures could not be accessed until I spent about 3 hours messing about with the camera settings. Got to laugh about these things even though they're annoying at the time!
I complained earlier that I saw only grey boxes when importing from my Nikon D2X. I've found what the problem was: when I set USB-mode (on the camera) to 'Mass storage', I can see the thumbnails again. When it is on PTP, I see those grey boxes.
Nikon set to Mass Storage: I see preview images in the Aperture 2.1.2 import images screen
Nikon set to PTP: I see grey outlines only in the Aperture 2.1.2 import images screen
Used to work in 2.1, specifically:
Nikon set to Mass Storage: I see preview images in the Aperture 2.1 import images screen
Nikon set to PTP: I see preview images in the Aperture 2.1 import images screen
Interestingly:
Nikon set to either Mass Storage or PTP: I see preview images in the
iPhoto 7.1.5 import images screen...
I am having a very similar issue as well as still having images that Aperture is skewing the Temp and Hue drastically... if anyone has some insight this would be great.
foxbw, do you have the latest raw update installed ?
the skewing of temp and hue was a problem for some users with (I think) raw update 2.2 and 2.3.
But version 2.4 fixed it for me.
However the introduced bug with the dotted lines as previews in import is still not fixed. Some of the users here insist this never worked and you need to buy a card reader, and claim this is normal.
I am still sane, and I know it used to work just fine a few versions back, now it doesn't.
Nobody is going crazy. I have my D40x set to M/P as well for Tethering and such. On one computer I have 2.1.2 and on a different computer I have 2.1. When connected to the computer with 2.1.2, I see the dotted boxes. When connected to the computer with 2.1 I see images. Looking for Apple to fix this soon. Very frustrating, especially after two or three sessions.
FYI. Aperture 2.1.3 was posted. It claims to fix something like we are experiencing here. "Nikon images imported directly from a camera now display thumbnails correctly in the Import window."
