Headset microphone doesn't work on my iPhone, but it does work on a friend's iPhone. Speaker and other microphone features do work including mute button. Is this a mechanical problem with my iPhone or is there a setting somewhere on the iPhone that controls this? Thanks
Same here. I was hearing sound from the headset but the mic and the button didn't work. I got a replacement headset from Apple and the problem was still there. I'm now waiting for a replacement iPhone from Rogers (in Canada).
Yes, it does go all the way in. I used compressed air and a paper clip to make sure nothing was built up in the headphone jack. Problem's still there. Thanks for you suggestion.
At least, I won't be out of a phone waiting for the replacement, I will get the replacement before I have to send back the defective one.
I am unsure whether the update to 2.01 had an effect, but my headset is working now. At least for the last few calls. Hope it's not an intermittent issue.
Version 2.0.1 of the iPhone software didn't do it for me. Still not working so I'm waiting for my new phone. I should get it tomorrow and will give you some news about it.
I am having the exact same problem. I have tried 3 headsets, all of them went in far enough and none of them will answer calls, let me double click through music or let me talk on a call. I have restarted my iPhone 3g and upgraded to the new software. Any other ideas?
Same case with mine 3G 8gb, is intermittent issue, even with 2.0.1, but discover is enabled when ipod app is open then use the headset mic button to play music (some times needs to be pressed several times), after that microphone does work.
My issue came back so it looks like it's intermittent. Bummer. Recently, I called someone who couldn't hear me and I twisted the headset at the connection and then they could. Sounds like a defect of some kind for sure.
My 3g was replaced after being checked out by the 'genius' for a non-working mic. Yes, I was hoping it was just the headset, but it seems the headphone jack may be a little 'suspect'. Very little inconvenience to just get the phone replaced and do a restore.
I was experiencing the same problem i.e. headset microphone stopped working. I just now used a paper clip's end and tried to clean the headset port in the iPhone. Even though I thought it was all clean and my headset pin was going all the way in, I was surprised to see lint come out of the port. After cleaning the iPhone headset port with paper clip all the headset function started working fine. Please, try cleaning the port of iPhone, even though you think your headset is going all the way in. Hope this helps!
