Exchange account verification failed

Trying to get new iPhone 3G to work with ActiveSync on an Exchange 2003 server. I type in all of the required info and get the following error: "Exchange account verification failed." ActiveSync is setup correctly on the Exchange server itself, port 443 is open on firewall. When the iPhone prompts me to add in info the the server, I put in the IP Address of our firewall because the name of our email server is not publicly published anywhere in DNS for spam control reasons. What else needs to be done to get this thing to work?

Just making sure. Have you confirmed that you have Exchange 2003 with Service Pack 2 applied (and fully patched)?

Have you tested a Windows Mobile 6 device on +*your specific account*+ and ensured that worked just fine?

I didn't scour this entire thread, so I apologize if I missed any fine points where this was already addressed

You also make a very good suggestion about WM6. I will ask my IT dept do that and see if there are any problems.

I don't think that this is cut and dried....

We have devices using WM6 and also Nokia S60 Feature Pack 2 working on Activsync withouty issue.

The iphone will not work with the same certificates - in fact the iPhone does not seem to offer these certificates when attemtpting connection although SSL is turned on.

This has been confirmed, the Administrator turning off certificate verification on the server and low and behold, the email did sync for the first time. As soon as the certificate checking was turned back on, it failed again.

We use 2-factor authentication, and although the Apple website says that it will work, it does not appear to.

I am also having problems. It worked with no problems for me until today. I have tried everything, but would not sync anymore, and would not allow exchange account information to be verified, and the account no longer works. I tried:

- Saving OWA certificates through email on the iPhone.
- Turning off WiFi
- Trying "/" or "\" in the domain name.
- Different server names ( http://, https://, no http at all)
- SSL on and off

Nothing works. No luck whatsoever. Corporation does not support iPhone and therefore will no offer support. Our Webmail (OWA) access still works. I know they changed something with OWA on their end - an upgrade or something - and whatever they did, stopped the iPhone from working with it. But ActiveSync must be working because we are able to access using OWA.

Help?

I am having the same issues as you have expressed. I had a working iPhone 3G and had upgraded to 2.1, and was syncing fine...till last weekend when a patch was installed on the Exchange server. Our company does not support the iPhone, but Blackberry and other ActivSync phones are still working, only the iphone 3G does not sync anymore.

Is there anyone who has recently upgraded Exchange 2007 and had the same unfortunate experience?

I was having this same extremely annoying problem, and was giving up hope - thinking it was some weird kind of issue with the particular version of Exchange used at our university.

However I finally got it to worked when, for "Server" I typed in the web access server and not the server address used by clients like Mail.app

In my case, the outlook server was

exchange.umontreal.ca

But this did not work. I had to type

outlook.umontreal.ca

Which is the address of the web page used to access our mail.

Hope this helps someone,

Rick

I ran into this issue with someone on my domain (I'm the local Exchange/BES/Domain Admin). It was a pretty simple fix once I put some thought to it.

His account was in an OU that I had not enabled "Outlook Mobile Access".

If you have access to ADUC (if you don't you'll have to get with your company's IT dept) have him enable the following settings on your profile under the tab "Exchange Features"

Outlook Mobile Access
User Initiated Synchronization
Up-to-date Notifications

If these settings were disabled, then that would cause your problem. Depending on how big your exchange forest is, this may take up to an hour to replicate. be patient and give it a try after a while.
