Trying to get new iPhone 3G to work with ActiveSync on an Exchange 2003 server. I type in all of the required info and get the following error: "Exchange account verification failed." ActiveSync is setup correctly on the Exchange server itself, port 443 is open on firewall. When the iPhone prompts me to add in info the the server, I put in the IP Address of our firewall because the name of our email server is not publicly published anywhere in DNS for spam control reasons. What else needs to be done to get this thing to work?
After you have open the port 443 on your firewall forward the port to your Exchange server or your Weboulook server. If you can than monitoe for firewall to see what going on when the Iphone is trying to login.
I experienced this same problem on my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) running 3.0 and was immediately able to connect once I filled in the domain field with the name of the domain that shows up on my company's XP log-in screen. Since it was marked as "optional" (and the term "domain" is pretty vague) my co-workers and I were skipping it... Here are the Settings I used:
email: user@company.com
server: exchange.company.com
Domain: [Domain I log into on my work computer]
Username: user
Password: password
Use SSL: ON
Does anyone from Apple ever reed this and actually answer questions? The main reason why I got this phone was to get my exchange email. It worked for two weeks and stoped. "Nothing" changed in my end.
@ChasC5
Exactly the same thing happened to me as well.
Suddenly it just does not sync any more.
When removing and re-creating the account it says that the account is verified so it seems to have some connection to the Exchange server.
However, nothing syncs and when returning back to the Exchange account page from the account details view it freezes for 15 seconds or so just as if it was NOT able to connect but I do not get any error message.
As a personal device the iPhone 3Gs excels!
As a business device however, it has not yet impressed me even the slightest.
I read in another thread that the SMTP-address was case sensitive.
After changing that and turning off the calendar sync my contacts and mail came back!
However, the calendar does not sync at all.
The lack of error messages on the iPhone is not always a blessing. It would have been handy now.
Have a solution for problem with syncing mail via exchange. I have used iPod 2nd gen to sync mail, contact, calander for last 8 months, until today I started getting the error message "connection to server failed". I was baffled because I had not changed anything. After searching all these forms I realize that everyone has same common problem, with different causes. Here's what worked for me. I was able to sync for the last 8 months without specifying a domain, I believed it to be unnecessary because I was syncing without it. This problem arose maybe in response to a server update through my orginization, or god only knows. I entered my orginizations domain and that solved it. I have also verified that this was the issue. Domain is optional, but only if it's not required (makes a lot of sense doesn't it :p?? those apple guys are goofballs). Hopefuly this helps those with less technical issues such as in my case, simply needing some common sense support. Respond back let us know if it works for you.
I am the Exchange Admin for our server running Excahnge 2003 SP2 with latest patches.
We had a problem with our OWA server where IIS service process w3wp.exe would take 100% CPU. To resolve, there was a hotfix from Microsoft for KB 941439. After applying this hotfix and setting the config in the registry all users were ok except some iPhone users getting verification failed. I have went to add/remove programs on the OWA, check the box for show updates and un-installed this hotfix for Exchange. After all services restarted, all iPhone are back online with no issues.
Now I hope this process does nto have the same issue with 100% CPU spike, so far so good.
We searched for our solution for weeks. like the post above, we thought it was wifi and a number of things. but, in the end we were not even close to the solution. our problem had to do with corrupt asp. i wish we could take credit for the fix, but these guys fixed it in 45 minutes. boy the were good. not one for calling to someone from the net, but they made believers out of me.

Hi, Any luck with this?
I also have similar problem.
Our organization is using the hutch mail server whose supprt people say that they do not support iphone. However they do support windows mobile
I am so frustrated. I have worked for hours on our server and iphones to try to get this to work. I need help!. We have an Exchange Server 2003 with no customizations. The OWA works perfectly via
https://www.domain.com/exchange.
I have been through the white paper several times verifying the server settings. What could be wrong?
I've done the activesync tests that have been recomended on this post and my company does not appear to have activesync running...does that pretty much eliminate any chance of getting email going?
