Cannot download or revoke development certificate

This is a problem that I've seen reported in another thread, but I thought it was a good idea to highlight this specific problem, in case others are experiencing it:

After creating a development certificate, I am unable to download it. Clicking on the name or the download button results in a "Failed to download certificate" message. When I try to revoke the certificate (in the hopes of creating a new one which might work), I get a "Failed to revoke certificate" message.

Obviously, I cannot create a development provisioning profile without a development certificate. When I try to create a create a provisioning profile, it says that I need to create a development certificate first. So, my dev cert is listed, but I can't download it or remove it, or add a new one.

I can create, download and revoke distribution certificate, however.

Has anyone encountered this problem, or does anyone have a definitive solution?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Replying to my own post here, but I just tried again and successfully downloaded the development certificate, so it might be worth trying again! I'd tried logging out, logging in, revoke, etc. repeatedly, so I guess they've done something in the meantime.

I just ran right into this problem tonight. I revoked a dev cert due to not being thrown into the keyring correctly. I created a new one, but I couldn't download it or even revoke it.

I can still revoke/add a distribution cert.

They need an "Oh S*" button that just resets the entire account.

I was unable to both approve and download a certificate in Safari 3.1.2, but was able to do so in Firefox 3.0.1. It seems that Safari is having an issue with interpreting the .cer files... well, that's my guess anyway.

I know mnajera was unsuccessful with FF as well, but it might work for some of you.

I feel your pain. I called Apple, they said it is a known issue, and their developers are working to resolve it. They said they should be able to resolve it in a few days. Apple should reimburse our accounts with extra subscription days for the days the service was down.

I had opened a tech support ticket on the matter. They didn't say they solved it but I can now download my certificate which is nice! I personally don't think it was a browser issue in my case. I tried this on 1 mac (Firefox & Safari) and a PC (Firefox and IE) and all failed.

I had the same problem last night. Same status this morning. I fired up Firefox, deleted all my provisioning profiles, and then revoked the certificate. Right now it's pending revocation, so it didn't fail. Looks like Firefox and/or removing any provisioning profiles fixed it for me.

Same exactly thing is happening to me right now... 😟
This seems to be happening sporadically to random people?
First I couldn't download the certificate using Safari, then I tried Firefox which worked, but now when I try to make the provisioning profile, it just says "Please create a Development Certificate".
At first I couldn't even make App ID and register device.
I wonder if I should call support...

Call support. The more problem requests they have, the more likely they are to actually do something.

In my case, after a day or so the certificate would start working and I could make the profile. Just keep checking. DON'T revoke the cert and try again... that starts you back from square one.

Thanks for the reply, this morning I checked and now I can select the certificate and made the provisioning profile. I finally got my first testing app to work on my iPhone

If it requires them some time to process, they need a better error message than, "Failed to download the certificate"... I was trying to download and revoke in every different way.
All good now tho 🙂

Agreed. I suspect something broke and so now they've got a trained monkey that has to go and press a button for every certificate request.

The whole thing worked MUCH better back around beta 1 and 2. I suppose life was simpler when there were only a handful of developers and the monkey spent most of his time smoking cigars.

Sort of. After about a day the problem seemed to fix itself. I did call in a support request to Apple as well, and they responded after about four or five days, but not with anything helpful. They just said it was an ongoing problem they were trying to fix and that they'd manually fixed mine.

The key is not to revoke. Request and approve the cert, try and download it, then just keep trying to download and/or make a profile with it. For me it was anywhere from eight hours to a couple of days before it became available. The first few times of course I revoked it and then requested a new one, which meant starting the waiting game again.

same here cant download developer cert so we cant actuallty test the app.
