itunes 7.7.1.11

I updated iTunes yesterday (or was it the day before? I can't remember) as prompted. However, since then I have encountered two problems.

I manage my podcasts manually, and when I tried to transfer some podcasts from my iTunes library to my iPod as normal, they wouldn't sync. My iPod Touch would bring up the 'syncing' screen for a couple of seconds, before returning to the home screen and NOT having updated. It didn't seem to happen with all podcasts, and some worked if I re-downloaded them, but not all.

Secondly, it seems to think my apps all need updating, when in fact they are all up-to-date (confirmed by connecting my iPod to wi-fi and accessing the app store through that.

Itunes 7.7.1.11 removed most of my paid applications and then told me some of the itunes songs were not authorized for my computer and did not load them. It took an hour to restore and is still holding two of my songs hostage. It really ticks me off because the songs it is holding hostage I paid for twice already because of the stupid "not authorized for your computer" message.

Any response from Apple?

Ah-haaaaaaaa! See what you mean! Complete BS! Same here - can't authorize the WHOLE ALBUM I just PAID FOR last night and I'm screwin' about it! Sick of them messing people around . . and then not rectifying problems - leaving us here all frustratd. I've even considered purchasing again - but don't wanna throw away any more of my money!

I did all of that and it worked...briefly. Either me closing the ipod drivers notifier when it was done installing refroze iTunes, or it froze again on its own. I repeated the uninstall-clean-reinstall and now iTunes is back doing the same old thing, pretending to sync and then ignoring the iPod after about 10 seconds of nothing.

I guess I will just wait for the next "fix" to be released by Apple.

A friend got this in email from iTunes support:

"I do want to apologize again for the inconvenience. The issue that your account is facing is a fairly widespread error for which has affected many of our customers. In order to correct the error with your account, I am having it looked at by an engineer..."

So it appears that they know about the problem. Good news. Hope they fix it soon.

This happens to me, too, with my new iPhone 3G after updating to 7.7.1 on a Mac. In my case the Sync In Progress (SiP) screen would appear for a few seconds and then go away while iTunes keeps thinking it is still backing up or syncing or whatever it was thinking it was doing.

I ended up restoring two folders on my Mac from my Time Machine backup to take iTunes back to 7.7 and I can sync again. I'm staying at iTunes 7.7 and iPhone 2.0 (not 2.0.1) for now.
