iPhone applications no longer work

I have had my iPhone for over a year and never had the troubles I am having now. I have installed dozens of apps and have the same update problem as all of you in this discussion. Now, most of my apps will not work at all! The past week, I have had apps crash and the iPhone would go back to the home screen. A reboot, by holding down the power button until asked to turn off the iPhone would usually solve this, but now, after several reboots, none of the apps are working now. On top of this, yesterday, I was stuck in the Phone app. I could select a contact and view a map of the address, but I could never get back to the home screen or select any other app. What was even worse was the fact that I could not reboot no matter how long I held down the power button. I had to hold both the power and home buttons which did reboot, but I lost all my music and videos. I am not looking forward to going through the entire process of installing everything again! Web apps still work fine as well as all of the Apple apps, but none of the free or purchased apps from the App Store work now. I think I'll try deleting all apps off the phone and from my Mobile Applications folder except for the $20 worth of paid apps that I have and start from scratch. If that does not work, I'll try a complete Restore which is a last resort since that involves hours of resetting preferences, app locations, etc.. By the way, what is with the hour long iPhone backup when synching through iTunes. Is this a bug in the new version of iTunes? I do not recall long backups before the iTunes update. I hope we get iTunes 7.7.2 and iPhone 2.0.1 soon. I hate to say this, but I miss the old reliable and bug-free iPhone version 1.1.4!!! Any insight from those of you reading this would be much appreciated.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Original 8 Gig iPhone, iTunes 7.7.1

I had the same problem after updating my iphone with a new software update. None of my apps worked that I had downloaded (free and paid) after the update, except for the default ones that were on the phone when I initially purchased it.

I got the apps to start working again by going to the app store and downloading another (free) application, then once the new application had been installed and opened i exited the app, and the rest of my apps resumed working. If any of you are having similar tech problems you should try this prior to losing your mind/going to the Apple store.

Your suggestion worked great for me!!!! Thanks....

Exact same problem Tom.

Facebook, LinkedIn, Yelp etc. All do not load. They open up then flash back to the home screen. My iPhone is all of 2 weeks old.

I love the interface but this is why I waited so long to get one and remain skeptical of all things apple. In their zeal to control every aspect of your experience - their software often crashes the things you expect to just work.

got a brand new iphone 3gs on orange last wednesday on the day of its release, so its less than 1 week old.

my apps have done this 5 times, the first 2 times i did a master reset, the other times i deleted re-installed apps.

obviously this is a tempory measure as it is now doing it again.

this is a brand ******* new phone, its supposed to be the leading phone and it never ******* works, ive had more trouble with this phone in 5 days than i ever did in 4 years with my nokia N95, if this doesnt get fixed very quickly i shall be sending this piece of **** back to apple and DEMANDING from my call provider a new phone.

how can i resolve this without deleting/master resetting????
spending £50 per month on this phone i dont see why I!!!!!! should be busting my bollocks to get this phone working prioperly.

ive tried master reset, hard reset, deleting re install apps. there must be a solution

This is merely an auth issue with the PC you are using. Somehow, while downloading and update etc, the computer with your Itunes account is losing it's auth. Stop deleting everything and authorize the computer you use to sync with. Then perform a sync. This has worked with every Iphone I've had to repair with this issue. No downloading etc needed...

Woke up this morning to the No Media, Apps crash problem. Couldn't access any of the songs on my iPhone and all the 3rd party apps were crashing.

the solution from pmonahan above worked for me:

1. Reset all settings

2. Download an app. I also downloaded a free song from iTunes and was asked to update my iTunes account/login info.

Thanks, just had this happen and the above worked. Annoying, but at least it was resolved quickly.
