Imac will not accept DVD's or CD's

When I insert a DVD or CD, after about 10 secs it spits it right back out. If I continue to insert the DVD or CD right after it ejects, the computer will finally accept it on about the 6th time and everything works fine. Is this a drive issue or software? any ideas?

Thanks

Imac, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I was really struggling with this as well, and looked at all 32 pages of this. I tried tilt, unmount from the command line, reset, etc.

Then I took a can of anti-dust spray (basically a blaster used to clean keyboards and electronic parts), jammed the wand into the SuperDrive opening, and blasted away back and forth along the opening. Voila! CD's are mounting again and I can continue to rip.

Last straw, so many silly issues that are very common but not recognised by apple, as stated before many people finding problems with dvd's I am new to trying to watch them on my imac but this happened to me the first time I tried to use it, I bought an apple product for its image capabilities but as I say to many silly issues I have encountered with my phones ipads imac etc so back to pc and windows for me.
