HP Deskjet 3650 Problem

I have recently upgraded to 10.5. But now my HP Deskjet 3650 will not print. I have tried to add the printer, but the driver does not appear (even though the documentation indicates it should be included in 10.5). I have also gone to the HP web site and downloaded the latest driver...but 10.5 does seem to see it...any advice.

I have the same problem, but only after I installed the HP Printer Driver Update 1.1. Before that my HP Deskjet 3650 was working fine both directly connected to the MacBook or with Airpot Express (Bonjour). Now I tried to install the printer using USB, and it finds the driver HP Inkjet 3.3.3, which then works fine. (If I remember well, before the HP Update there was another driver something like HP Deskjet 3600.) If I now connect the printer to the Airport Express, the system recognizes it as a Bonjour printer, but does not find any driver. 'HP Inkjet 3.3.3' is not included in the list of drivers, so one cannot set it manually.

Maybe a bug in the HP Printer Driver Update 1.1?

Same problem here.

Putting the printer on an USB port directly on my mac it works fine but connected to my airport Express it doesn't work.

So it this seems not te be a problem of the Airport extreme base but its a problem that's in printing through the printing protocol MacOSX 10.5.4 uses in talking with the printer through bonjour.

Connected to another Mac the printer works fine through bonjour.

Maybe I can help you guys!
I found the same problem and solved it by installing the printer Linux drivers for Mac!
First you need to download the following files: foomatic-rip-2008-01-30.dmg ( http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/foomatic-rip-2008-01-30. dmg),
gplgs-8.61-ub.dmg ( http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/gplgs-8.61-ub.dmg) and hpijs-2.7.10-UB.dmg ( http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/hpijs-2.7.10-UB.dmg). After that install the foomatic... and gpgls... files prior to the hpijs... file otherwise it won't work.
Following this go to the system preferences, print & fax, and add the printer. The driver should now be there!

Thank you so much! This solution worked flawlessly, unlike Apple's HP printer update from a month ago.

I actually have an HP 3425 printer that had the same issue when trying to share it via a time capsule (model series wouldn't show up in driver selection drop down *even though time capsule identified the model correctly*, "Print & Fax" preference pane wouldn't allow me to see the physical location of the driver that worked for it over USB, spent hours trying to squeeze functionality out of it).

Fussing with printer drivers is probably one of the worst experiences one can have on a computer, especially when the computer can find the driver fine over USB. It's fantastic that people have created drivers for these models that work better than what Apple/HP can provide. It's just a shame that Apple doesn't bundle these drivers with Mac OS X, if they can't handle the drivers themselves.

Thanks again.

P.S. the HPIJS link is no longer current and doesn't work. Version 2.8.9 is the new version: http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/hpijs-2.8.9-ub.dmg

This page always shows the latest versions of the aforementioned pieces of driver software (but take care to download only what's appropriate for your version of Mac OS X):
