what do apple actually manufacture in mac computers/laptops?

ive heard they get the hard drives and ram from other manufacturers.

why dont the mac specs list details about motherboards?

some people say apple actually make the operating system and the hardware. is this true?

which parts in an apple computer are actually developed and made by apple?
that you cant get from other third party companies.

cheers
just curious.

Why are are you asking all this on a Logic 8 forum?

Hardly anyone does their own manufacturing these days.
Apple makes the OS, everything else is most likely farmed out and made to Apple's spec. Apple motherboards are made by Intel....RAM by ???, hard drives/DVD/CD by various manufacturers. Don't know who makes the cases which are some of the nicest around.

He's probably trying to make one of those h*ckinto$h computers.

Hey dude, the nice thing about macs is you don't need to worry about all the nerdy stuff, you just get what you can afford and use the appropriate software.

If you want to troubleshoot non stop and worry about your L2 cache and the likes, you should probably stick with a windows pc or build yourself a linux box. Use a bunch of shareware and torrent software.

If you want to invest in a solid OS and a well built computer go to the tab at the top of the screen that says "store" add to cart the computer that you choose, then add to cart Logic studio, then press checkout, you will be prompted to sign in or give a credit card number. Im sure you can get it from there....

    apple motherboards made by intel?

why dont apple say the model of motherboard on specs of computers?
theres just no mention of the motherboard on the specs of macs.

    "farmed out to apples specs"..........yeah

im not really asking about the manufacturing of the parts...just wanna see which hardware parts are actually designed and developed and created by apple.

i mean what makes an apple mac an apple mac???
can we buy the specific parts ourselves? in theory.....or are some of the parts exclusive to apple?

apple mac owners so senstitive! and get touchy when anyone
ask questions about the build of macs.

i am buying a macbook asap. so you dont need to convince me.

"Are some parts exclusive to Apple"

Apple uses a custom boot ROM for the OS.

The OS is the main thing that makes an Apple Mac a Mac, at least these days. That said, Apple specs usually define some of the best hardware out there.

It's not like buying a $450 Dell at your local Circuit City, although they have more in common than they used to.

Yeah, and then come here and other boards and see all the problems people are having. PC's aren't like that anymore, although they can be if that's what you want. I have an Athlon-64 XP_Pro that's every bit as stable as the Mac. IMO why not use the best of both worlds. I purchased Sonic Foundry (now Sony) software ages ago and personally can't do with out it, there's nothing as full featured or comparable on the Mac, it only adds to Logic's capabilities.

    Get used to it.

Ego + insecurity is a dangerous combination.

    (speaking in general of course)

Hey Bob, I think it's way cool that you're getting a Mac...no problem in that. But maybe look into your grammar and spelling - it's becoming very annoying that people these days don't know how to speak proper English due to instant messaging and texting. Trust me, it'll make you look smarter when people ask "why are you posting in the Logic 8 forum?"

(DOES Apple make their own hardware?)

nothing wrong with my writing style....i touch type....i write fast because i can.....i get my point across and dont wanna waste time going back and re-reading and correcting things that dont really need to be.

i do know how to speak proper english. instant messaging and texting? i dont write like that. i hate taht too.look smarter? i dont care how smart i look.
i am who i am and im here to learn and discuss.

    soundforge?
how can that add to logics capabilites?
if they are on two diff systems?

what can soundforge do that pro tools or logics audio editing cannot?
  • jackballed Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
    Point proven - thanks!
  • Tired_mind Level 1 Level 1 (40 points)
I'm sorry I put the "build yourself" in the wrong part of the sentence.
SoundForge and FL (wont dare call it by its full name here ) are two reasons I still have a pc at my desk. Im not hating on home builds or windows.
Macs are simpler than pc's in as you only need a mac if you're going to run apple software, i run logic so I have a mac. So with mac you buy the best one you can afford add ram and thats it. Why worry about all the uber details when its not going to make a difference? You get what they give.

BTW. all my non vista pc's work great and are just fine stability wise. I own many as I have a print shop that apple computers would be a nightmare in.
