Updating MPeg4 Tracks???

I have been happily transferring tracks from ITunes to my Mini for over a year now. However, since updating to ITunes v6 some of my tracks have been transferred to a different file within cdrive as MPeg4's.

Despite seeing them in the Library these tracks will not upload onto my Mini. I am then faced with a message stating that my software is out of date. Again I have downloaded ITunes v6 but I am still faced with the same dilemma?

Any ideas?

Anthony, welcome to discussions! The message you got isn't referring to iTunes, it's referring to the firmware on your iPod being old. In order to update your firmware, you can download the updater from the following link. Once you have the updater downloaded to your desktopt, you will have to open it & run it, connecting iPod ONLY when asked. Once iPod is connected, you should have 2 choices, update or restore. Try to update only & once your done, I'm betting you back in business. Post back if you have any questions.

Thanks StarDeb55,

This sounds a reasonable explanation.

I have downloaded the Updater and selected the application in my Program Files called "iPod Updater 2005-10-12"

However, nothing happens.

Am I selecting the correct file or do I need to restart my pc or even download the tool again?

Most grateful for this support...

10 minutes is a bit long.

If you are stuck in the formatting/ Restore process, click on the little 'x' in the top corner. It may take you to the next stage in the process. Sometimes it gets hung up.

If this doesn’t work:
- Shut down the computer
- Disconnect the iPod
- Restart the computer
- Run the updater again
- Connect the iPod when prompted.

Post back with results, or a bit more detail on where you are in the process.

I am still struggling to cope with applying the updater.

Upon connecting my mini to ITunes I am met with the prompt to use the updater. I click the run button and my Ipod displays 'Do not disconnect', the prompt disappears in my ITunes with the apple logo in the display bar, nothing appears to be running.

The other night I left this for 2.5 hours with no joy. Today it has been running for 15 minutes already. I have attempted to download the software again but after selecting the Windows Option it then takes me to the "Thank you for Downloading" page.

As a last resort could the Apple shop run the updater on my Ipod or does it need to come from my machine?

Pob, iTunes has nothing ot do with the updater, so I'm not exactly sure what you're doing. If you downloaded the updater to your desktiop. double click on the updater & open it. Once the updater is open it, wait until it asks you to connect your mini. Once the mini is connected, there will be your 2 choices, update or restore, take it from there. iTunes really has nothing to do with updating your iPod, the only thing you use is the updater.

StarDeb55,

Thanks for the reply.

I have downloaded updater again it has not placed it within my desktop, I instructed it to be placed under my Ipod folder in Program Files.

There are 6 files within this folder:

Acknowledgements
IPod Help
Ipod Updater 2005-10-12
IpodUpdaterExt.dll
Readme
StMp3Rec
StMp3Rec
StMp3Recnt
wordpad_icon

I am clicking on the file named Ipod Updater 2005-10-12 and nothing is happening? If I open ITunes then it displays a prompt to run the updater, which I then click. However, again nothing happens and my Ipod Mini permanently shows the message "Do not disconnect"

Any other ideas?

Do you know if my local Apple shop be able to update my Ipod Mini Software?

Pob,

These are the steps to get the iPod Updater functional. If you cannot complete any of them, post back. Make sure you do not plug the iPod in until instructed.

Make sure that you have the latest iPod Updater software. Download it to your Desktop or a Folder for storage. Do not run it from the download dialog box - do not place it in the 'Program Files' folder or sub-folder.

Then: You also need to install the Updater software by double-clicking on the file that downloads.
After you install the Updater to your PC, reboot your computer.
After rebooting, run the Updater.
Go to: Start ==> Programs ==> iPod.
It should initialize then ask you to connect an iPod.
Connect the iPod when asked (not before) and you should have two options available: Update or Restore.
-- Choose the Update option and it will update your iPod's firmware to the latest version.
-- Choose the Restore option and it will update your iPod's firmware to the latest version
b and
format your iPod's hard drive.
