iPhone wifi not working

Ok so as of two days ago, my iphone has had major difficulties finding wifi networks, let alone connecting onto any of them. I live in an apartment complex and normally my iPhone shows a list of around 20 different networks, but now my phone sees none of them. I can even lay my phone on top of my router, and still nothing. Earlier today I passed by an Apple store, and my phone couldn't even pickup the free wifi there. I have already tried resetting my network settings to default on my iPhone, restored my iPhone, and still nothing.

Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I haev just spent €211 for a 4s replacement: the new IOS 6 doesn't work. Apple support is not helpful. the problem with the WIFI remains. I feel it's time to swith company as Apple customer care and products have started to have serious issues. In the last year I only had problems with Apple, problems that Apple hasn't been able to fix.

I am seriously disappointed by Apple. they were pretty fast in asking me the money for the replacement but what I got was a phone that doesn't work.

My daughter's hand me down Iphone 3gs had this problem - very old but has been working well and then suddenly couldn't access any wifi either home or out (couldn't find any networks or accept them manually being input)

Tried all the solution:

Airplane on off etc

Reset to factory setting

freezer

Fed up and resigned to buying a new phone I tried the ancient fix of 'bang the appliance'. Hit the back of the phone against my hand, my leg no fix but then just as I was just about to give up banged it against wooden work surface

🙂BINGO Wifi 😁 returned and it is now working well.

Not sure how long it will last but have managed to extend the life of this phone for at least a little longer.

The iphone 3 is very robust, I wouldn't recommend this fix for the newer models they are much more fragile! 😝

I found these tips on iphonefaq blog see if they work for you

These problems include the inability to connect to Wi-Fi, 3G and/or Edge, lack of push notifications and issues with the YouTube application. Fortunately there are several fixes you can try to correct these data issues on your iPhone:

1. Reset network settings. Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

2. Still having problems? Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Warning: You will loose all of your preferences.

3. For YouTube problems on jailbroken iPhones try installing youtubeFix from Cydia or another package installer.

4. Restore your iPhone as a new phone. This is a slow and tedious process but will reset your iPhone as if it was new from the factory. Although this should fix all of the above issues, you will have to reload your contacts and media onto the iPhone from the computer manually. To restore:

- Connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Run iTunes.
- Under the Summary tab select Restore.
- Select backup if you wish. When restoring as a new iPhone you will not use the backup.
- When the process is complete the iPhone will restart.
- When the Set Up You iPhone screen appears select Set up as a new iPhone.

Of course, after restoring a jailbroken iPhone you will lose the jailbreak and unlock functionality.

iPHONE 5 UPDATE: There are limited circumstances where iPhone 5 users are experiencing slow speeds or intermittent service when connected to Wi-Fi. There are two fixes that might help.

1. Entering manual DNS settings has been reported to help. Navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi and touch the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi network. Touch DNS and enter Google's DNS server address (either 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8).

2. Router compatibility issues could mean that WPA2 Personal W-Fi security is causing the problem. Switching to WEP security or removing password security altogether can improve Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity.

Thank you so much!!

I too want to thank Rudnxtx for his post. I haven't been able to get any wifi on my iPhone 4S for over a week. As soon as I tried Rudnxtx's suggestion, the wifi on my iPhone 4S began to work immediately!

Thank you so much again! I was almost about to buy a new iPhone! I called the AppleCare number, the pole store, the AT&T store, and they all said I had to buy a new phone because it was defective and my warranty was over so it wouldn't cover it. I hope everyone reads this before buying a new phone or putting it in the freezer! lol

This had been bugging me for a while too, especially at home on the home network.

I'm in the UK, with Virgin Media SuperHub and Apple Time Capsule.

The airplane on / off trick got a connection, but with speeds of close to zero.

I've been playing about changing the wireless channel in the time capsule settings. 11 got speeds of around 5MB (for reference we're on Virgin's 100MB). 1 had speeds close to zero. But on 6 speeds on the phone are around 20-25MB.

So that's what ended up working for me.

I accidentally left my phone on the passenger seat in my car for two hours. When I come back, I found out that my phone was sitting under the sun. I try to turn on, but it says please Waite until the temperature cool down to turn on the phone alert on my screen. So I waited until it cools. I found that the blue tooth button start to working, wifi still grey. Then I went to general and reset network settings. Bingo. Both wifi and Bluetooth works perfect now. Hope this can help u.

Wifi greyed out: It has been like this for over a year. I thought tried everything. then I decided to do a little of everything. This is what I did to get it to work.

Put it in the freezer for 20 minutes: I set a timer

Took it out and turned it back on right away. I know they say wait but who can wait.

Didn't work so I decided to try the airplane mode turn off turn on airplane off.. Voila! It actually came back on. I immediately put in my wifi info and its still one. Holy Cow! I tried all different ways but this order worked for me. Yippee. Thanks for all the posts!

iphone besides entering into a freezer, this may be one of the solutions that can help
- Go to camera
- Move into video mode
- Turn on the video light, let your iphone a few minutes until hot and the light turns itself off ..
- Repeat until your iPhone is really hot
- Exit the camera menu
go to settings ---> turn on airplane mode
- Turn off your iphone
- Let sit for a few minutes until the temperatures become cooler iphone
- Turn on your iphone and go to the wifi settings.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY, then your wifi will work normally, but unfortunately it will not last long so the same problem will come back later ...
This way I always use my iphone any wifi problems (gray out / can not detect the hotspot signal), and it often works ..
note:
- Reset network settings
- Reset all settings
- Restore your iPhone as a new phone via itunes
This means iphone wifi will not make you work, but it only hurt when you just ...
hopefully can help you the same fate unfortunately with me 🙂
