Samsung SyncMaster 175v not working with MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro deteced it as a display "SyncMaster" right away, but the display is simply black with a flashing green light by the power indicator. When I unplug the video input from the back of the monitor, it says "no connection, check signal cable", so i know the monitor isn't simply dead.

I'm using the DVI-VGA adapter with a belkin vga cable to connect it. I've also tried with a completely different adapter and a completely differen't cable. same effect.

any ideas? thanks!

Did you reset the monitor - using its built-in settings? (Menu button to Option Six - RESET).

Are you "mirroring" displays to test - so you are sure you're not just seeing a black background?

Is "Power Save" activated?

I have tried mirroring displays. same effect. i can't get to the menu. it shows nothing when i push the menu button. even when nothing is plugged in at it's flashing the "no connection" message, i push menu and nothing happens. then it just goes black when i plug it into anything.

Then I think you've discovered that the monitor has a problem. Is it still under warranty?

doubt it. my brother's friend had it laying around. simply told me "it doesn't work with my graphics card" so he gave it to me.

if it means anything, it doesn't go black when a VGA cable is connected, it goes black as soon as i plug in the VGA -> DVI adapter, and stays black when i plug it into my macbook pro.

Have you tried another adapter and/or cable? Don't mean to sound so simplistic...but I'd rather see you troubleshoot than just whip out $189.95 for a new 19-inch LCD...

Do you have the manual? I found it online, if you need it. I was busy tyoday, didn;t search for a "reset" routine other than going through the front MENU button.

yeah, i've tried both another adapter and another cable. same effects. i don't have the manual. i don't expect you to hunt through it for me, but if you happen to come by anything helpful, be sure to let me know! thanks.
