How do I "ungroup" folders

I'm not sure how I did this, but somehow all of my music on my HD was put into folders by artist. Previously, it was organized according to the song name. Now when I go to My Music, I have to click down 3 layers before I reach the songs in the file. How do I undo this so that the songs are just listed with the iTunes logo and are not grouped by artist?

P.S. The listing on iTunes itself is fine. I just want to change the listing on my hard drive.

And to continue Otto's thought.... Why do you need to? If you are using iTunes, you rarely need to go into the underlying music file structure. Especially if you are using iTunes exclusively.

It should not matter how iTunes organized the actual PC files as long as one is happy with how iTunes displays and manages the song references.

I know that some folks are very particular about their music organization, but at the moment, it escapes me.

Actually, it DOES matter when you are using the music outside of iTunes -- e.g., when dubbing songs into a slide show.

Why use them outside of iTunes? You can drag and drop the song from iTunes into any folder you want, and it'll make a copy of it for you. If your slideshow program lets you drag and drop music in to add it, you can drag it directly from iTunes to your program.
