.ics files - outlook meeting.ics attachment won't open

My Iphone can't open outlook meeting invitations. It shows up in email as a meeting.ics attachment that will not open.

The old blackberry did it perfectly, was sent as meeting info with no meeting.ics folder to open (in this case not open)

This is an extremely basic yet important function that should be elementary to any business enterprise phone.

What am I doing wrong?

.ics attachments aren't supported by the iphone's mail app. Submit feedback to Apple:

Actually, I have tested this a bit further. When I receive a meeting invite sent to my Exchange server email address, it shows up on my iPhone as an invitation, as I would expect. However, when I receive it via one of my 2 IMAP mail servers, I get the .ics attachement (with which I can do nothing).

Why is it that an Exchange server sending this makes it work?

Crappy workaround but at least you can see the ics info...

• open the mobileme web client
• click on the message with the calendar item in it
• click on the forward message button

You'll see all the code for the ics attachment in the view. It's ugly, but at least you can see what date and time you're scheduled for your hernia surgery 😉
