Empty Chat Rooms, Blank messages, Iphone responses.

Hi,
When I open iChat on my mac I get two things that pop up; my last chat with a friend (now completely blank) and an empty chat room titled (Empty Chat Room). Now when I message people on my buddy list, I can only get their response...on my iPhone via text AND AIM application. Now I've deleted com.apple.ichatAgent.plist and reset, but nothing. I've tried rejoining the chat room to make sure I didn't close it properly but won't show their responses or mine. Now when I type, I just see the ellipsis and the words, but when I hit enter just the ellipsis. This is followed by a response on my phone. Should I take off the AIM application on my phone? Should I take of mobile fowarding? Thanks in advance.

First of all go to iChat > Preferences > Messages Section and if you don't want them deselect +Remember my Open Chats across Launch+

This will stop old Chats opening when you start up iChat.

In theory an Open chat should have the the details of the things your were saying in it and not be Blank like you describe (well chat rooms can be but often are not - even though everyone has left the text should be there)

com.apple.ichatAgent.plist is the one I would have started with myself as well

Also go to the File menu in iChat and the Go to Chatroom option and make sure you are not Auto-joining any rooms.

It may pay to stop AIM Forwarding as a test.

Are there any messages about iChat in Console (Applications/Utilities) ?

Console is an Application in the Applications then Utilities folder.

It allows you to see various reports as they happen and keeps a on going live log of events on the computer.

There are other applications in the Utilities folder that are for looking at or helping with various bits of the OS or things such as Airport Base Stations and even MIDI Devices.

Your Mac will run without these but I would not discard them out of hand.
The KeyChain Access in particular can be very useful on a now and then basis, as can the Activity Monitor.

In fact I am not aware that deleting anything in that folder will make iChat suddenly work.
