You might not like my review, I am pulling no punches.
I got the black n red with the clip.
The clip itself is superbly sturdy. It is easy to detach the phone from it but does securely grab the rivet. The rivet on the case itself is just as solidly in place now as the day it arrived. I don't think you could ask for a more secure connection without moving to some serious steel mechanism. And that is an observation that needs to be made because...
There have been several instances of brushing against things that have popped the flap open. Usually I notice when my hand falls to my side and I feel something flopping around where nothing should be doing that. For that reason, I got one of those film screen protectors, just in case. Of these several instances, three times the top edge of the phone was snagged in a way that the phone itself was also pulled from the case. It's really not the case's fault for that, the case cannot physically grip the phone with enough strength to halt 165 pounds of person in mid-step.
Happily, because I have the headphones in at least one ear throughout the day, when those three phone ejections happened the phone was caught by the cord at knee height and didn't fall to the ground. The sudden tug on one/both ears alerts me that my knee is about to smack my phone across the floor, and it is rescued immediately.
Of the case... for $80 I expected a bit better. For a product line generally advertising such a long "handicraft" manufacturing process, there is not a single stitch on the thing. Essentially - take two pieces of formed plastic, sewing scissors and a fine tipped glue bottle and assemble the major halves of the vaja case by covering them with leather. Let sit to dry which shouldn't take more than a few hours due to the relative thinness of the leather itself. Achieve proper sizing for the hook closure by using an insert and glueing the bottom flap to the proper length. And yes, looking at where the front tab inserts into the slot on the rear, I can see the glue holding the red tab in place. On my case, on the front flap at the right bottom corner the glue holding down the red leather is coming loose a bit. Likely because I use my phone single-handed in my right hand, and right there on the case makes contact with the edge of my palm. If they had trimmed the red at that location a bit more that wouldn't happen. I
can make out the individual snips of the scissors at each place the red leather hits a corner or curve - the longer edges are also not straight lines.
As such, attaching the rivet and vaja 'double droplet' thing is more complicated than the rest of the case. But those two things are done quite well. I think the rivet is attached directly to the formed plastic of the rear shell.
Then there is the typical 'Not quite like the images' issue. I expected more of a matte-black coloring to the outer shell that doesn't really reflect glare and it arrives with more of a battered / beaten flat appearance and texture. Go to the vaja site for the black n red and look at the pic of it closed, at the lower right corner where the texture is mostly gone. Mine is completely flat there, and the rest is nowhere near as pebbled as shown.
Also, I expected more of a vibrant striking red but I see a more vivid red on the standard netflix envelope.
Bottom line: It's overpriced by about $30 in my opinion. Going to a partly-mechanical manufacturing process would likely increase quality, as the minor errors could disappear. I'm not lastingly irritated by the issues I do have, but I wouldn't buy another case from them either.
