Multiple copies of email sent (2.0 Activesync account)

I have a user that has updated his iPhone to 2.0 software and we've set him up with an Exchange Activesync account.

Unfortunately he is having a sporadic issue where he'll send a message, or accept a meeting request, and his iPhone sends the message out multiple times. This has happened twice so far. The first time I have no data for besides the knowledge that it was a meeting request (a really old one) that was popping up after we set him up (probably an old request that he never replied to), so he accepted it to clear it out and it sent the notice out multiple times.

Last night however he forwarded a message to his supervisor and it sent it 5 times. When I checked the messages on the server each message had a unique message ID on it, so I figured it was the phone actually sending the message. After checking his Sent Items this was confirmed, and the message was indeed sent multiple times.

The interesting thing is that so far this has only happened when sending mail to one individual--his supervisor. It does not however do it every time he sends mail to him.

What sort of thing could cause this behavior? It doesn't happen when he's using his installation of Outlook. It's making him afraid to send emails using his iPhone, particularly because his supervisor isn't happy that he has one. 🙂

We've got 1 iPhone user who has experienced a similar problem but we've been able to stop it from happening. She uses OWA on her MacBook (connecting to Exchange 2003 SP2 server) and when she scheduled scheduled a meeting (or had a meeting scheduled on her behalf) she would invite herself. OWA does not allow the meeting organizer to act on a meeting invitation. OWA on Safari does not handle this elegantly and somehow Exchange would interpret this as needing to resend the invite to everyone on the list. When she doesn't invite herself, it doesn't seem to occur anymore. We can't specifically tie the behavior to the iPhone but it did not start happening until she upgraded to 3.0.
