Epson 2200 printer options missing in Leopard

I've just spent almost an hour with Apple Support and they were not able to help with this issue, despite the fact that a quick Google search shows that I'm not the only person with this problem.

I'm using the most recent Epson drivers from the Epson website and although I can print, I cannot select any paper types, resolution, double sided printing, high-speed, etc. I've tried to reset the printer queue, I've deleted all the driver from my Library>Printer folder and reinstalled... NOTHING.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've done several searches and followed the various procedures others have recommended to no avail.

Mac Pro Dual Quad Core 2.8, Mac OS X (10.5.4), ???

Unfortunately, all the descriptions for how to solve the problem on the Epson web site do not help. The solution on Epson's website indicates the problem should be resolve when the proper drivers are installed. This didn't help. I am definitely using Epson's drivers (not the Gutenprint one). I've sent them an email but I fear they will tell me that the 2200 is discontinued and thus not supported.

I have no trouble printing to my 2200 using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Preview.
What drivers are you using Epsons or Gutenprint? I am using the Epson one (ver 3.09)

You can find out the drivers by opening System Preferences -> Printers Select the Epson and then click on Open PRint Queue, click on the 'i' Info button in the print queue to see the version.

I think you need to use Epson's. I downloaded them from their site and installed them. I also downloaded there paper profiles and installed them.

Finding the "handle" to get to the things you want to set was, and to some degree, still is, a bit obscure to me being relatively new to the Mac (and loving it!)

Using Preview as an example open an image and: Select File -> Print
In the middle of the column of various Settings you will see Preview click on it and you see a bunch of choices like: Page Settings, Color management, Print Settings etc. Each of these changes the options ans let's you select paper size, paper type, print speed who manages color etc.

In Photoshop CS3
You select some of the options in (Photoshop File -> Print and the rest after you hit Print which gets you the Mac OS X Print dialog. In this case "Layout" is in the middle box instead of "Preview" but clicking on it reveals the same option dialogs.

There is a similar thread [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1669867] for the moment I'm working with him directly as we're into some nitty gritty specifics but I expect we'll summarize some of the results when we're done.

If this doesn't help give us some specifics of what/how you're trying to print.

First of all, you should probably delete the current printer entry for your 2200. Then you should try to add it as a new printer. I will say that some functionality and recognition of the latest driver seemed to work better when I switched to using USB vs FW, but the options were all there, either way.

I have not experimented with any connection other than direct, and once with Bonjour with another, newer printer than the 2200, but currently both Epson printers I use are connected directly to the computer via USB.

I moved from XP to OSX two months ago and have been working to get my 2200 to function properly ever since. I have spent many hours on the phone with Apple, Adobe, and Epson. I have tried all three possible drivers. I understand that the driver, which in OSX 10.5 is called a plugin, that came with OSX is the most current version from Epson.

Last evening Epson finally concluded that they have not updated their driver for OSX 10.5 and have no intention to do it. In fact, the Epson tech said "The 2200 is six years old, you can't expect Epson to support it any longer. You need to purchase a current model".

What a crock...

I think I will look at the HP printers...

I am having the same problem with my Epson. I can find no-where where this problem is addressed properly.
The issue is that the print settings such as color management, grey scale, color profile settings, paper profiles, etc are all missing.
I like most have downloaded all of the proper Epson drivers but no luck.I have an Epson CX7400 and 2400 which are supported models from Epson.

I wonder if you haven't found the right place for most of these.
When I switched in April to the Mac I had a little trouble finding -even worse, for a whil,e remembering - where all the "knobs and levers" were located

Some depend on from what App you're printing.

Here's what I observe on my system with an Epson 2200 and Epson drivers
When you select print in an App, the print dialog appears and there is a drop down box in the center right of the dialog has options for Print Settings, Color Management, Layout, Summary, Preview, Paper Handling, Paper Feed, etc. One of these will appear initially the others pop up if you click on it.

There you can select things like paper type, size, who does color management, print speed etc.

The exact options depend on the Printer model, When I select another printer I see different options related to its capabilities.

From color managed apps like Lightroom, Photoshop I can specify to them the exact paper profile, rendering intent etc and whether they will handle color management etc.

I have a new MacPro with leopard pre-installed. I can print to my Stylus 2200 using the epson driver v3.09, but I dont get any of the layout or print settings options in the mac OSX print dialog box. In PSCS3 I choose File>Print (select what I want) and then PRINT. I get the Mac OSX Print dialog box but it doesn't have the LAYOUT drop down! It only has the PRINTER drop, PRESETS drop and then the four buttons at the bottom: PDF, PREVIEW, CANCEL and PRINT. That's it. I cant find any PRINT SETTINGs or PAPER TYPE options like I used to with Tiger on my G5. It sounds like you DO have this option...what are you doing that I am not?

I would love to compare settings with you. Surfing around indicates that many people are having this problem with leopard and 2200. I have tried a couple of posted fixes, but nothing is working for me.
THANKS!

Steve, I just posted above, but am posting again at the bottom of the thread because I don't have the THIRD set of options in the final print box! I'm totally with ya until the final print dialog.

After reinstalling my printer driver (v3.09), and installing the epson premium icc paper profiles, I STILL only have two drop downs in the final PRINT dialog box: Printer and Presets. There is NO third drop down! (I used to have this on my old G5 running Tiger, so I know what to look for) There are just those two dropdowns and the four buttons at the bottom: pdf, preview, cancel, print.

Where, oh where, are my PRINT SETTINGS with MEDIA TYPE?!
Thanks for any help/advice!
