The sender address was invalid

I got an iPod Touch since September 2007. No problem at all with the email account until the version 2 update software. I receive all my email on it but unable to send email, from gmail account, from my internet service provider email account etc... All email account I cannot send email.

Then I receive my new iPhone today, I was hoping not having the same problem. But I got the same problem, not able to send email. And I got this message: The sender address was invalid.

How can my address email can be invalid when it come from a reply or my address book.

Also the setting was not made by me, because my email account was sync from my powermac G5 and I can send email from my computer.

now I have two mobile device that can't send any email.

Any idea???

I upgrade to 2.0.1 the iPhone and can't send email again

Gilles Savard1,

Does this happen to every address you try to send email to? Does it only happen when you reply, or also when you type out the address manually, not allowing the auto-fill function to complete the address for you? Typically, this error indicates the email address is in fact not valid.

If these suggestions don't help, some general troubleshooting steps such as resetting all settings or restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new phone may be useful. More information on a restore can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

Hope this helps,

Raleigh

Like others, this problem started for me today. I thought it was related to the 2.2 update, since i only noticed it after the update, but now it looks like the problem is more likely to be related to the Gmail smtp servers. Hopefully this gets fixed soon before everyone screws around with their settings too much, and everything ends up borked after Google or Apple fixes the issue...

Well it worked with the stuff above just fine.. but it stopped saving the sent messages.. it only saved the ones send to the same account...Maybe all this has to do with the new update [2.2]. Since we are all getting it in the same time ... maybe thats the coincidence.... I just update it and restored my iPhone and its the same.... i have no idea why its like this

This is not just related to gmail servers. My Yahoo mail on my iphone is having the same problem even after I deleted the yahoo account and reinstall them on iphone, I get the "Sender address was Invalid" message and all messages could not be sent. This is the same for both WiFi and 3G network. I only have this problem since I updated to the iPhone 2.2 and iTune 8.0.2 yesterday.

Come on, Apple. The last time you gave us the iPhone 2.1 update it messed up my e-mail fetch feature (it wouldn't fetch my gmail), and now this !?!!?

I had the same problem and here is the fix. 1) goto setting 2) click on mail, contact, calendar 3)select your email acct 4) click on SMTP 5) click on the first box under primary server 6) make sure you type in your user name and password.

My issue was that these two field were left blank and my service provider changed their setting and now you need to make sure its in your setting.

I hope this helps
